Akrotiri and Dhekelia
editHow do the British naval bases Akrotiri and Dhekelia on Cyprus fit into the Mediterranean Fleet? Abductive (reasoning) 05:26, 23 February 2019 (UTC)
- Abductive, they're actually not naval bases, and the last Commander-in-Chief of the Mediterranean Fleet hauled down his flag in 1967. You will see at British Forces Cyprus that the force is almost entirely Army with a forward striking RAF presence at RAF Akrotiri (plus USAF U-2s). The Fleet Commander (Vice Admiral) and Commander Operations (Royal Navy) direct the forces from HMS Excellent and the Northwood Headquarters in the UK. Buckshot06 (talk) 10:29, 28 March 2020 (UTC)
