Requested move 14 June 2021
editMelissa Barrera (actress) → Melissa Barrera - Given her significant rise in stature and request remove the (actress) associated with Barrera so it's just her name, Melissa Barrera. The One I Left (talk) 19:20, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
Requested move 24 September 2021

The result of the move request was: moved. I saw the WP:RM/TR request by Appu and hastily moved it after reviewing and forgetting to check if there was an existing RM, but it seems to be a pretty obvious case and thankfully this was eligible for a close anyway. I've also tagged Melissa Barrera (disambiguation) for deletion as well under WP:G14. (closed by non-admin page mover) ASUKITE 14:18, 2 October 2021 (UTC)
Melissa Barrera (actress) → Melissa Barrera – The actress here is definitely too popular to be not a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. The only other Melissa Burrera on Wikipedia is Ms Melissa Barrera (radio personality), who I don't think is notable enough to have an article in the first place. The statistics show that the actress has got 62,444 views while her counterpart, 538. Appu (talk) 08:13, 24 September 2021 (UTC) Appu (talk) 08:13, 24 September 2021 (UTC)

Discussion over 2023 alleged antisemitic social media posts.
editIn Nov 2023, Barrera made social media posts about the 2023 Israel-Hamas War, which were deemed as antisemitic by production company Spyglass. She was consequently fired from an upcoming Scream sequel. This is clearly stated in reliable sources, regardless of what our own personal views of her comments may be.
It seems that this Wikipedia page is already being subject to biased edits and is at risk of an editing war. We should push for extended-protected status, as well as be clear about what is and isn't accepted about this contentious news development. Neutral Editor 645 (talk) 12:05, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
Wrong section title.
editIn order for it to be labelled as controversy, there has to be significant backlash by normal people and not by some company called Spyglass. As it stand the section should fall under "Political views" or "Views on Israel-Palestine issue"
Deliberately calling it controversy just fails WP:NPOV 182.183.20.126 (talk) 12:41, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for bringing your concerns here. I disagree with your change. Basically everything about the Israel-Gaza situation is controversial at the moment. It's unclear to me if you are claiming "normal people" agree with Barrera's firing or if "normal people" view her statements as entirely appropriate and therefore, her firing is unwarranted. Certainly, any time an actor is accused of hate speech, that warrants a "controversy" section, surely? I'm speaking here purely as an editor, not as an administrator. --Yamla (talk) 12:50, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
- By "normal people" I meant the general public as well as political scholars, analysts and other commentators that react on these statements. The yes, Israel-Gaza situation is a heated one for sure. But just because a Spyglass spokesperson deemed her words to be hateful does not warrants for Wikipedia to give WP:UNDUEWEIGHT to label a section as 'Controversy' which essentially means "prolonged public disagreement that results in significant backlash."
- My request is that until there are more negative reactions to her comments, named the section aptly "Political views" or "Views on Israel-Palestine issue." That's it 182.183.20.126 (talk) 13:02, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
- Per WP:CSECTION, Sections or article titles should generally not include the word "controversies". I've deleted the subhead as unneeded, but really, this section should be changed from "She believes X, which led her to be dropped from film Y" to "She was dropped from Y over statements she made about X" and placed in the Career section. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 13:47, 27 November 2023 (UTC)

Please add "Actress, singer and dancer" to her profession. And update the picture with this: Melissa Barrera 2024.png Monimu30 (talk) 22:02, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
- Not done: There are currently no sources confirming she is a dancer, and per MOS:ROLEBIO only professions related to the subject's notability should be listed at the top. The new image appears to be a copyright violation as it was copied from Instagram and incorrectly listed as public domain on commons. Jamedeus (talk) 22:30, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
