Is He On FaceBook?
editCan't find his entry.
Sleazebag ?
editAccording to a BBC 2 Panorama programme broadcast on 03/02/12, he appears to be very adept at using tax havens to take money that should have been paid to creditors of a collapsed company (British Caribbean Bank: Johnstones/Oxford Ventures?) - he also used false names to reserve hotels (Mr. Webster). It all sounded very fishy - is he suing the BBC for defamation? Is the BBC run entirely by lying communist filth? They are not suggesting he is corrupt, no no, not at all, just someone who conceals stuff from the Stock Market and Parliament (like which companies he is controlling). Some would say, if you are a law maker, your business affairs should be totally transparent? 79.70.232.125 (talk) 00:59, 3 February 2012 (UTC)curiousity79.70.232.125 (talk) 00:59, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

editThis article currently serves no other purpose than to bring back the old 'tory sleaze' allegations that have been fought off tirelessly. This article belongs on the world socialist website, where it came from. Much of the second paragraph is taken verbatim from [1]
If someone wants to write a proper article, they can start with his date of birth, not speculation on his business. What's more, there is also a separate article under Michael Ashcroft —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bernstein2291 (talk • contribs)
- Tonight's revelations in Panorama just go to show how wrong you are. The guy is clearly oozing sleaze! 1812ahill (talk) 00:35, 15 October 2010 (UTC)
Gazette references
editWhen searching out the definitve references for his honours, I came across these two other possible references:
- "No. 51073". The London Gazette. 28 September 1987., a Michael Anthony Parker Ashcroft, of Hanover Square, changes their name by deed poll to Michael Anthony Ashcroft.
- "No. 54949". The London Gazette. 14 November 1997., a Michael Anthony Ashcroft is nominated as a possible future High Sheriff of Greater London. Unfortunately the gazettes for 98 and 99 aren't fully online, or I'd expect to see him in the subsequent nominations for the following two years as well. However, if he had been appointed it would have fallen in March 2000, jsut as he was about to be nominated as a life peer, and peers are ineligible for the office, so maybe he was dropped form the nominations. David Underdown (talk) 18:04, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- From everything2.com, which I'd thought was a copy of Wikipedia but is actually not, and has a much more comprehensive article on Ashcroft:
- ...the son of a Frederic Parker Ashcroft and Mary Lavinia Long
- So it's fairly safe to say the first reference is of him. JRawle (Talk) 20:51, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
Panorama 31 Jan. 2012
editAre the Turks and Caicos Islands controversy surrounding Ashcroft's businesses and the associated allegations of deliberate deception, as reported by BBC Panorama yesterday, sufficiently reliable and well documented to be included in the article? See also a report in a local TCI paper--TraceyR (talk) 21:23, 1 February 2012 (UTC) I think they are TraceyR: he can of course, sue them for defamation if the program was in any way inaccurate - he' s loaded:)79.70.232.125 (talk) 01:03, 3 February 2012 (UTC)largishbuttplug79.70.232.125 (talk) 01:03, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
Picture
editIs there a photograph of him available, because if there is, it would be far more suitable at the head of the article than the 'bust' picture? RASAM (talk) 12:15, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
Coat of arms
editUnder the heading "Arms of Michael Ashcroft", it states "Coronet: A Coronet of an Earl..." This seems nonsensical to me, as Lord Ashcroft is a baron, not an earl; one would expect to see the coronet of a baron in its place. Can anyone explain or correct this?
