Gameplay just compares this game to previous ones?

edit

Given this game's popularity, I came to the wiki page to find out why. Well the "gameplay" section normally describes the gameplay, not a comparison of this game to its predecessors. I am expecting to read things like "build structures, upgrade units, attack your enemies", not things like "The gameplay of Heroes VI represents a step away from the five original installments. About half of initial schematics, including spells, skills, abilities, heroes, units and buildings will remain present, with the other half being innovative. For example the absence of the magic guild, mandatory building for town updates in the previous games. In Heroes VI, the magic guild leveling is replaced by the hero skill/ability wheel leveling, while new spells are learned only at particular dwellings outside the town. "

This is completely useless for someone unfamiliar with the game series!--moeburn (talk) 01:50, 14 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Wrote a gameplay overview. I feel that this does need to have comparisons to the older games, so fans of the series can compare the changes. I am not so good with writing though, perhaps someone could use this and enhance it to merge or enhance the gameplay section. Do agree, the current gameplay looks more like a complaints section...

The gameplay in heroes VI revolves around the player controlling various heroes. Heroes are used to lead armies, destroy neutral monsters or attack enemy heroes and cities and forts. Cities can be improved by players and are where heroes recruit new creatures for their army. As heroes do battle they gain experience and levels which unlock new skills and abilities divided between the "Might" and "Magic" themes.

Central to the gameplay in Heroes VI is control of cities and forts. Each city and fort has a zone of control that gives ownership to resource production builds and creature dwellings, which boost the weekly growth of some creatures. Cities allow the use of town portal spells that can teleport heroes to any city or fort they own, making owning these forts crucial.

Name change??

edit

Please tell us (in the article) why the name was changed from Heroes of Might and Magic to Might and Magic Heroes?? Thanks! Naki (talk) 15:14, 18 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I read somewhere that it was so that the start was "Might and Magic...", to try and make all the might and magic games stay together. Can't give a source sorry. 58.167.42.65 (talk) 08:07, 27 December 2011 (UTC)LogiCReply

the pegi rating is 16

edit

therefore the box shot that shows 12 should be replaced by the one that shows 16. on the box i have it says 16. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.208.59.120 (talk) 00:21, 24 October 2011 (UTC) please find a correct european box shot and correct the error that say that the pegi rating is 12 because it really is 16.Reply

According to Ubi Store it is Pegi 12 [1], maybe the rating increased because of the DLCs? --LunarShaddowღIvy (talk) 18:37, 18 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Edit: The pegi info said it's Pegi 16 [2]. They conflicted with each other :( --LunarShaddowღIvy (talk) 18:40, 18 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Article old and very incomplete

edit

LOTS of info must be added to get this article right! Someone please start... Naki (talk) 20:27, 2 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

I fully intend to, but I'm still waiting on GameSpot to publish a review before working on the Reception section. --Monere (talk) 22:10, 5 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
I don't care about the Reception section. All sections of the article are very lacking and need work. --Naki (talk) 17:14, 6 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Well, then, you're welcome to get to work on them, but I can't finish my own draft until that review is published --Monere (talk) 14:06, 7 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
My experience with the game is very limited, I have only finished 3-4 missions, so I can't comment and review the game. I found someone to help though... :) Naki (talk) 18:11, 19 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
I won't have time to finish the article within the next while, so I'm now removing the update-in-progress tag. I do intend to "finish" the rest of it within 2011, but probably not as recently as you'd like. Would indeed be good to see where the GameSpot reviewers are hiding. --Cerulean Chicken (talk) 21:40, 25 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Dear Chicken, you have just 3-4 days until the New Year. I hope you will follow-through and finish the article... Or maybe you are keeping it for the last hour of the year?? :)Naki (talk) 18:13, 28 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
Naki, how about you keep yourself busy by contributing to the article in a productive and reliable manner? Ltr,ftw (talk) 07:07, 29 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, it turns out that I probably won't be able to make further significant edits until January at best. But it is a collaborative wiki after all. You don't need to wait on me or any other editor to improve the article, just do it. --Cerulean Chicken (talk) 14:39, 31 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
I can't! I simply can't, because I have not finished even Missions 2 yet... (I am playing in the "supposed" chrono order) So I don't have enough info on the game yet... :( Naki (talk) 19:26, 31 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
Someone add that GameSpot review info, please. Thanks! Naki (talk) 17:40, 24 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Spoiler warning

edit

Please put a Spoiler warning sign over/before the Plot/Story details. Thanks in advance! Naki (talk) 18:12, 19 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

No. There are no spoiler warnings anywhere else on Wikipedia and rightly so. Don't go near the articles if you're not prepared to read the plot info. --Cerulean Chicken (talk) 19:20, 20 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Um what?? I don't want you to remove the content! I want you to put a spoiler sign, which I am sure I have seen in some other Wiki articles. Unless the policy was changed in between...? Naki (talk) 21:29, 21 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, did not read that in full! I guess they changed the policy then. Naki (talk) 21:30, 21 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Reception section needs work

edit

Patch history doesn't really explain how the game was received. Found IGN review and Gamespot review. Again I'm not so good a writer.

http://au.pc.ign.com/articles/121/1210600p1.html and http://au.gamespot.com/might-and-magic-heroes-vi/reviews/might-and-magic-heroes-vi-review-6346819 58.167.42.65 (talk) 08:39, 27 December 2011 (UTC)LogiCReply

Indeed, reception section does requires more input by different users. In my recent edit of the sub-article, I did mention that there is a significant and persistant backlash by the Might & Magic Heroes 6 community, aimed at the game publisher and developer. Both Ubisoft and Black Hole Entertainment have been keeping a low profile since the game release. The article should be placed on the watchlist for potention vandalism by both sides. The reason why I introduced patch information into the section, was to provide a balanced overview of the game that is lacking in most reviews, IGN and GameSpot included. You will notice that the reviews have not touched upon any of the big problems that the game is still experiencing- crashes, lock-ups, error messages and bugs. References that I have provided support the argument. Having said that, do feel free to contribute to the article in any way, shape or form, as long as it is verifiable and balanced. Regards, Ltr,ftw (talk) 10:28, 28 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
You are funny! You mention patch 1.2 has many errors and problems, yet link to 1.1.1 patch issues. Many/most of those issues are FIXED in 1.2. Also, it does not make any sense to say 1.2 has lots of bugs and link to 1.1.1 version bugs!! Sorry, but you obviously have a hard time with "writing comprehension"... Naki (talk) 18:11, 28 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
This will be my last reply to you, Naki. In addition, I will remind you of a Wikipedia guideline: "Avoid personal attacks" and warn you of further escalation... The reference that I had provided is entitled: "BUGS-Please report bugs here" and as such is an on-going forum for reporting the bugs, irrespective of the game version, ie. recent entries are related to v1.2, while browsing the discussion in a reverse-chronological order will take you through v1.1.1, v1.1 and v1.0 bugs. That disussion also provides a link to technical issues experienced by the community. Many of the bugs have not been fixed by v1.2 patch, in fact! Simple mathematics tells us that a page forth of fixes can not possibly resolve 30-odd pages of bugs (1 vs. 30). Ltr,ftw (talk) 07:30, 29 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
I added a second paragraph to this reception section that is typical to what I see on other video game articles in wikipedia, a summary of the various reviews from typical gaming review sites. I haven't seen a lot of articles that cite forum posts as balanced. I think they are inherently biased, but who am i to remove other's contributions and the forum posts are out there, they are what people posted. Readers of this article should know however that inspit of the forum posts out there, the reviews for the game were fair to great.Mike padilla (talk) 19:18, 21 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

This reception section is still uncomplete : it doesn't say that the majority of the bugs are unfixed, the ai is still very poor and the game unblanced, even after 1.2. Also, it should talk about the poor reception from the fans of the series : I never saw so much people complaining about an heroes game on almost every forum. The poor consumer support is also very critizised. I think that this is worth being stated, and the consumer reaction it's more valuable than the too often biased critics (that are payed to give good reviews), that most of the time play the game only a few hour and don't go enough in dept. Release/Versions

edit

How many versions of the game are there?? Says Distribution: Steam in the Infobox, but I do NOT think this is it. Such as:
1) UBI (non-Steam) digital download.
2) UBI (non-Steam) DVD physical media.
3) Steam
4) Russian versions/etc.
Someone please add info! Thanks in advance for any such info. Naki (talk) 16:48, 16 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

the expansions need to be listed

specially since they have been released. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.208.59.120 (talk) 17:58, 5 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

I agree, why isn't there a wikipedia page for them?? 120.144.10.181 (talk) 13:03, 11 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
There are no expansions yet for this game. Just two tiny DLCs. A real expansion is coming in spring of 2013.Naki (talk) 13:19, 18 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Board game adaptation

edit

Should a section be added for the board game adaptation of this game, similar to how it is done for articles like Battlestar Galactica or World of Warcraft? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.166.199.49 (talkcontribs) 12:58, 7 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sure. But this may or may not be the right place for it. Are you sure the board game is based on Heroes VI in particular? --SubSeven (talk) 23:30, 7 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes, very much so. The characters and art are all based on Heroes VI. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.166.243.23 (talk) 16:37, 13 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
