Mike McGear
editI believe that the artist is known professionally as "Mike McGear". Should this not then be the title of the article? LessHeard vanU 21:44, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hear, hear. Anyone searching for info on this musician would surely do so under the Mike McGear banner. Can anyone oblige ?

- He changed his name in the 1980s back to McCartney. --andreasegde 10:29, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
- However, wasn't he most notable (Scaffold, Grimms) as McGear? LessHeard vanU 11:29, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
- He changed his name in the 1980s back to McCartney. --andreasegde 10:29, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
- He's known now as McCartney, as his books of photos are titled. McGear was a stage name. --andreasegde (talk) 14:51, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe I was a bit too bold and moved the article over to Mike McGear without first checking out this discussion page. However, MoS is clear on the matter regarding real names as opposed to stage names and variations.--Technopat (talk) 16:42, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

"A Mike Barnes photo taken in 2005"??
editIs the date on the photograph correct? He looks like a man in his thirties, rather than his sixties! Lavengro1954 (talk) 18:42, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

Mike McGear → Mike McCartney – COMMONNAME and PRIMARYTOPIC. While Mike McCartney used the stage name Mike McGear early in his career to avoid appearing to be riding on the coattails of his famous Beatle brother, by all accounts it appears most reliable sources and he himself goes by McCartney now.
- Mike McCartney's website: mikemccartney.co
- Twitter handle: MikeMcCartney
- His book: Mike McCartney's Early Liverpool
- NY Times uses Mike McCartney: Mike McCartney
The other use of Mike McCartney is the obscure footballer; see the page views.
In any case, based on the page views, anyone searching with "Mike McCartney" is far more likely to be looking for this article than the footballer. So we clearly have PRIMARYTOPIC as well as COMMONNAME here. And Mike McCartney is already a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT to this article. В²C ☎ 03:05, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
- Support per nom; I originally nominated the page Mike McCartney (footballer) to be moved to this title. I learned quickly from this user on that article's talk page that this was a mistake. Not only does this article have pageviews in the thousands while the article about the footballer doesn't even come close, but Paul's brother does not appear to have used the stage name "Mike McGear" in years (the most recent instance I could find of McCartney using this moniker was in 2005, when he was credited under this name for his work on Paul's album Chaos and Creation in the Backyard). Given that he does not seem to actively use the name he is credited under for this article's title, and especially since, as the nominator points out, the Mike McCartney page itself is a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT to this page, I do believe this qualifies as a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, the more I look at this.
