"libaquechawen," which roughly translates to "the wandering lands of sorrow"

It seems that many other Minnesota towns have old Native American names as well:

This area of Minnesota had the name chequnado by the Chippewa people, which is roughly translated to hills of music.

It was once name paquambe by the people of the Sioux tribe, which is roughly translated to "land of tall men"

It was called "shananeed", or "the rich land" by the Winnebago tribe.

It was once named chepaquepa, which roughly means "Land of the Bitner People".

In earlier times, this area was called "meebeega", which roughly is translated to Chippewaas "hard floor or ground".

Actually none of these Minnesota towns had any of these Native American names. They were all invented by a clever Wikipedia editor who seemed to enjoy seeing how far s/he could go spreading disinformation around before it got deleted. I normally delete false information but I'm going to leave this for someone else to discover since it's doing no harm - and it's a good lesson to not believe everything you read in Wikipedia unless it's well-sourced. As of a few days ago Moose Lake is no longer "The wandering lands of sorrow". But it still can be found here: http://www.startribune.com/templates/Print_This_Story?sid=111605599 Gandydancer (talk) 20:19, 3 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
