Talk:Child sexual abuse in the United Kingdom

Up to date statistics

edit

Just completed quite a significant edit to try and get the statistics on convictions and prisoners up to date. I know the ethnicity issue has been in the news recently and that it's also controversial. If the consensus is that ethnicity should perhaps just be left out then of course revert this edit. Notable incidents

What is the order of the incidents? If timing is important - many cases run pararelly. Xx236 (talk) 07:57, 13 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Edit request to a label in the 'Further Reading' section

edit

Hello, In the 'further reading' links at the foot of this article, the first link expands and the first link/label reads "Localised grooming groups".

That phrase "grooming groups" has a very peculiar flavour, inadvertently-so I am sure. It is reminiscent of something one might look up in a local community directory (with the word 'grooming' replaced by something else of course, like 'Hillwalking') or "I can't work late tonight, I've got my grooming group".

I can't figure out where the phrase "localised grooming groups" originates within WP in order to edit this label. The WP pages it links to discusses group-grooming, not grooming groups.

The article it links to is UK-specific, so that should be reflected in the label. And the major scandals in the linked-to-article are about serious child abuse, not grooming. Grooming is intended to lead on to abuse, and arguably grooming alone is a form of child abuse. But the scandals that are linked-to are specifically about horrific child abuse rings who groomed then abused children.

So I suggest changing the label

"Localised grooming groups"

to

"UK child abuse scandals" or "UK child abuse rings"

thank you. Flusapochterasumesch (talk) 18:05, 15 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
