This article is one I copied from Everything2 a long while ago. It probably needs some updating; lots of the non-NYC stuff should be (or is) in 4-6-4, for one thing. —Morven 18:34, Dec 17, 2004 (UTC)

Which was first?

edit

Since I wrote this, I now believe that the European 4-6-4 tanks were first (thus Baltic), but I don't have a cite either way. Matthew Brown (Morven) (T:C) 07:13, 2 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

The first Baltics were two compounds designed by Du Bousquet and built for the Nord Railway in France in 1911. They were allegedly for the Paris - St Petersburg express service, hence the name Baltic. They were tender engines, not tank enegines. One in fact survives in the Cité du Train at Mulhouse - see http://www.railfaneurope.net/pix/fr/steam/misc_Nord/pix.html .

Commodore Vanderbilt train redirect is in error

edit

There is no documentation in this article indicating that the engine --the subject of the article-- carried the Commodore Vanderbilt train. Therefore, the redirect from Commodore Vanderbilt (train) to this article needs to be struck.Dogru144 (talk) 01:19, 20 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Not struck, but changed target for "Commodore Vanderbilt (train)" to the specific section, and refined the reasons, as per the correct statement by Dogru144 that it was an engine rather than a named train set/service. Jmg38 (talk) 06:37, 12 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
