Article title
editI reverted the name to Dr Nick Riviera -- it is more commonly used. If anything, the article ought to be called Dr Nick,[1] which is one of the redirects. Nephron T|C 02:16, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
Puerto Rican?
editWhat's the source for his Puerto Rican background? Siyavash 03:23, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Argentinan?
editIn Spain the voice has an Argentinian accent. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.13.115.138 (talk • contribs) 20:32, 17 January 2007
Yes, and I don't get the "citation needed" thing. What citation can I provide on this situation ? Just watch a frigging episode in the european spanish dub and check it for yourself. There are plenty on Youtube—Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.155.193.98 (talk • contribs) 12:44, 18 May 2007
citation needed? In the spain dub (castillian spanish) he has an Argentinian accent... PERIOD —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.9.165.136 (talk) 18:49, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
His Argentinian accent is strong, parodic and even ridiculous. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.153.19.114 (talk) 10:00, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Sigma Chi
editI couldn't find a single primary source showing he is a Sigma Chi. The best thing I could find was this video, but that doesn't prove he is a Sig, it just shows he was at a Sigma Chi party. If anyone has a primary source please use it and put the statement back up. Acidskater 01:49, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
Update
editI'm afraid I can't do it right now, but this needs to be updated to reflect his death in the film.--63.224.239.149 07:14, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
Although, it is an uncertain death, so the text should stay present tense until we have confirmation.Davie4264 18:28, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
He is Argentinian
editOne is implied that the Dr Nick is Argentine due to his accent in Spanish dub from Spain. In English the Argentineans usually they do not have an accent that identifies them so I suppose that for that reason it is not known very well from where it is in the version in English.
should it be noted that he suceded in heart surgery-RJ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.147.197.46 (talk) 04:56, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Death forever?
editIn the movie Dr Nick dies, but I hope that only he dies in the movie. Some knows if it will also die in the series of television?
They have said that the movie is Canon so yes he is now dead. we should change the page to reflect this i reckon
- He might have his stade upgraded to alive. ZdS| talk 22:07, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Letters in moustache?
editI've just finished watching "Homer's Triple Bypass" and I noticed that Nick has two "M"s in his moustache. I went and found an earlier appearance, and it looked like he has "N" and "M" in that show. Does this mean anything, the way the MG on Homer's noggin does, or is this just a coincidence? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.167.136.139 (talk) 07:36, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- I think its just the way he is drawn, but who is to say for certain? It could be. Rhino131 (talk) 13:05, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Dr. Nick is not Latino
editSimpsons creators have said repeatedly that Dr. Nick is supposed to be Eastern European.

Dr. Nichopoulos
editHas anyone else heard that Dr Nick was inspired in part by Elvis' doctor, George C. Nichopoulos? I can't remember where I read this, but there is an indirect reference to it on Nichopoulos' wikipedia article. It would make sense - Dr Nick is possibly Eastern European, and Nichopoulos was Greek, plus Nichopoulos was notorious for overprescribing prescription drugs to Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, and others. Would anybody be able to confirm the link? BTW Nichopoulos was commonly known as Dr Nick. Melaena (talk) 23:13, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
- @Melaena: It's quite difficult to know whether it's true or not. See Talk:George C. Nichopoulos#Nick Riviera. F (talk) 12:23, 21 September 2017 (UTC)
Reception and Dr Nick vs Dr Hibbart
editAlthough it might be good to refrence the article compairing Dr. Hibbart and Dr. Nick, that article appears to be satirically written, which is not reflected in this page's usage of it.

Nick Riviera → Dr. Nick – WP:COMMONNAME and same fashion as recently moved Principal Skinner and Mayor Quimby CTJF83 21:43, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
NeutralSupport move to Dr. Nick Riviera - While Dr. Nick is the most common naming of the character, the term can also refer to Elvis' personal physician. However, a hatnote could always be used directing readers to the George C. Nichopoulos article. Dough4872 21:52, 19 November 2011 (UTC)- If that turns out to be a problem, I'm fine with Dr. Nick (The Simpsons) CTJF83 21:54, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
- Another possible alternative would be Dr. Nick Riviera. Dough4872 21:57, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
That would be fine with me too.CTJF83 21:59, 19 November 2011 (UTC)- On second though, he is rarely referred to as Nick Riviera, so I think Dr. Nick (The Simpsons) is best. CTJF83 22:16, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

- Oppose use the other title Dr. Nick (The Simpsons) instead. 70.24.248.23 (talk) 05:09, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
- Comment. I agree that Dr. Nick is the common name, but that disambiguation is required. My personal preference would be for Dr. Nick (The Simpsons). Jenks24 (talk) 06:04, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
- Support. My personal preference is Dr. Nick with a hat note to George C. Nichopoulos. As far as I can see, there are no ingoing links to either The Simpsons character or the Elvis doctor, so I believe that it would be uncontroversial to do that. Otherwise, I'm fine with Dr. Nick (The Simpsons) as a compromise. --Maitch (talk) 09:57, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Merge
edit10 days after this article passed an AfD, a merge was proposed. After a single comment the proposer closed the discussion as merge. I suggest it should be relisted to garner broader consensus. Otherwise it is undermining the AfD which was closed with a consensus to Keep. Cheers, Polyamorph (talk) 15:06, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
- What I did was entirely within the rules.--Jack Upland (talk) 19:24, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
- That may be, but as you are aware there are renewed discussions around these mergers and I don't think there is clear consensus. Cheers, Polyamorph (talk) 19:16, 21 February 2020 (UTC)
- @Polyamorph: I agree. This article should be keept. WP:LOCALCONSENSUS 10 days after the Afd is not ok. Christian75 (talk) 09:56, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
- Per WP:BRD, restoring the article was a Bold edit, it has been Reverted, now the Discussion takes place. (Here, rather than leaving passive-aggressive notes on user talk pages.)WP:CONLEVEL seems to be misunderstood in this context, as no small group of editors is attempting to force a consensus on a larger group (what's actually happening is that a small group of editors is disagreeing with an equally small group of editors. Not the same thing).A consensus clearly exists—whether one likes it or not—at the present juncture to merge the article following the AfD.Goodbye. ——SN54129 11:45, 7 March 2020 (UTC)
