A fact from Ninth siege of Gibraltar appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 13 November 2012 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
|
adding the title of "Lord of Gibraltar" to his reign
edit'adding the title of "Lord of Gibraltar" to his reign'
- What does that mean?- And how was a 15 month siege 'in' 1467?
- And is this article about an 8th, or a 9th siege? The bulk of the text seems to be about an 8th siege, redlinked.
Actually, that's just 3 of many problems I had reading this piece...
There is lots of oddly phrased, confusingly written prose throughout this article, with the result that, for the most part, it is difficult to actually understand what is being described.
Is it some sort of Google/machine translation, or something ? 101.172.127.242 (talk) 09:04, 19 October 2012 (UTC)
Edited to add: I put a copyedit tag on the page. I hope that's the right thing to do to get it fixed. 101.172.127.242 (talk) 01:48, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry about that. The main issue was that I wasn't done with the article yet. But I am now, for the moment. I've gone ahead and fixed the Lord of Gibraltar sentence. You're right, that was badly worded. I've also fixed the dates, as the siege was from 1466 to 1467 (though the sources are giving me different lengths, ranging from 14-16 months).
- I'm going to remove the tag for now, but if there's other prose issues, please point them out to me. SilverserenC 03:31, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks Silverseren - another siege covered! The museum may have a reference to this amongst all the other sieges. Seems odd that this place seems to have been the place to be surrounded for a lot of history. You may find some historic pictures on commons if you want one. Thanks again Victuallers (talk) 09:59, 26 October 2012 (UTC)
