Proposal to move
editI propose to move the present article to Nonnus of Panopolis and create a disambiguation page including
- Nonnus of Panopolis
- Nonnosus, also called Nonnus, Byzantine historian of the 6th century
- Theophanes Nonnus, a Byzantine physician.
- Saint Nonnus
--FocalPoint (talk) 23:30, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
- An unnecessary complication for those editors who write text: hatnotes suffice. Nonnus (disambiguation) takes care of any conceivable confusion for the less-than-handful of Wikipedia readers who might actually be looking for these dim obscurities. Wikipedia awaits our anonymous Mover's article on Nonnosus (historian), also called Nonnus, Byzantine historian of the 6th century, not normally confused with Nonnus..--Wetman (talk) 22:19, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
The article exists in Wikipedias of other languages ca:Nonnòs, el:Νόννοσος. Anonymous? No, just forgot to sign.--FocalPoint (talk) 23:30, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
So I go ahead with moving the article since I see that this proposal found fertile ground.--FocalPoint (talk) 23:32, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
- The article was moved by the anonymous IP User:85.72.135.70 . Unnecessary complications and bungles can often be averted simply by pausing first and thinking "What is the best service to the Wikipedia reader? And what is the simplest solution for the logged-in Wikipedia editor?" Note the simple, sensible article titles at ca:Nonnòs, el:Νόννοσος. Let's avoid showing off, that we know of others called Nonnus. --Wetman (talk) 01:00, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
- no, the article was moved by FocalPoint, I changed "[[Greek people|Greek]] epic poet" to "[[Greek language|Greek]] epic poet". 85.72.135.70 (talk) 01:35, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
I moved it thinking that you agree. The "hatnote" term misled me.--FocalPoint (talk) 07:23, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
- The hatnote merely reads For other people named Nonnus, see Nonnus (disambiguation). Not very misleading. When Wikipedia readers enter Nonnus, they are guided here, to the obvious Nonnus, and see this hatnote to guide them onwards, if an obscure Nonnus is wanted. --Wetman (talk) 15:34, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Hamlet without Hamlet
editNow we have Nonnus without Dionysiaca, thanks to some industrious cannibalizer: encyclopedic thinking seems beyond most folks' reach.--Wetman (talk) 11:59, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
- It's in section two, with a link to the fuller treatment. One of the core characteristics of an encyclopedia should be brevity. --Andreas Philopater (talk) 12:50, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
