Previous rename

edit

The previous content of under this article's name can be found at Linear least squares (mathematics) and the previous Talk page is at Talk:Linear least squares (mathematics). This renaming arose because the previos content had nothing to do with "numerical methods ....". Melcombe (talk) 10:24, 14 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

That's certainly true of most of the previous content, but i'd say that much of the Linear least squares (mathematics)#Computation section could be moved here. Qwfp (talk) 20:48, 14 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Some of that is relevant, but none has proper citations and there is no detail about why it is relevant to "numerical methods". And it looks as if most would need to remain in that article as well, for completeness of that article. Melcombe (talk) 09:42, 15 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Redirect to Linear least squares (mathematics)

edit

This article is very short and also has very low fact density. It is obviously an aspect of linear least squares. This material fits well in that article. Actually that article already has much of the material that really should have been the core of this article. So I will move this text to Linear least squares (mathematics) and redirect this article name there. --Ettrig (talk) 10:42, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

And I have restored it (this is the second time it has been restored)... after all it has a stub template, is relatively new and there is a lot more that can be said here that would not be appropriate in the other article. Melcombe (talk) 13:44, 27 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
There is almost always a lot more that can be said. This does not motivate creating an additional article for a sub-sub-subject. That problem is dealt with when an article has grown too big. --Ettrig (talk) 14:11, 27 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Missing picture

edit

Section Introduction contains a link to Numerical_methods_for_linear_least_squares#Properties_of_the_least-squares_estimators that says "see the picture below" but neither the section nor a picture exist on this page. Does someone know where the picture has gone and how to fix this link? Rjaeschke (talk) 10:25, 8 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Gradient descent?

edit

Do we missed gradient descent algorithm for this? 220.253.11.180 (talk) 18:19, 11 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
