Oligospermia and Oligozoospermia as synonymous
editCould someone update this page? My Stedman's lists Oligospermia and Oligozoospermia as synonymous. I would do this myself but, I have neither the time or the expertise at present. Ibrmrn (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 21:01, 19 October 2008 (UTC).
Huh?
editWhy does the first sentence say that Oligospermia (in bold) is different of Oligozoospermia, and then talk only about the second? Kromsson (talk) 11:53, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- Indeed strange. Mikael Häggström (talk) 17:33, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
There is no such thing as oligospermia, the correct term is oligozoospermia. The suffix "spermia" refers to semen, and the suffix "zoospermia" refers to sperm within the semen. When referring to parameters related to sperm, the term -zoospermia should be used and when referring to parameters related to the semen/ejaculate, the -spermia should be used. Oligo refers to concentration/count/density. It is probably written this way because users can edit the body but not the title. The title should be oligozoospermia. M. Marks 11 Dec '13
