Electoral map

edit

Hey guys/gals I was wondering when a provincial electoral map will be added, with all the ridings greyed out. So when the election comes, each riding will be filled in with their respective colour. I was also thinking about this for the PC leadership page, having a coloured in map would help with presentation and perespective of where candidates won. I don’t know what program was used, but if I knew, I would even try to do it myself. Derpy Kirby (talk) 19:57, 22 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

DrRandomFactor is the one who makes a majority of these amazing maps. They mentioned to me that they would work on one for the Ontario PC Leadership race, and I'm sure they will have one done for Ontario after this provincial election as well! Canadianpoliticalwatcher (talk) 23:02, 22 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

My suggestion would be to have amp showing the colour of the successful candidate, with a shading to show the percentage of the vote with which he/she won the district by. Maps that give the percentage of the vote a candidate receives does not seem as important to me as seeing which party won where and by what rough degree of dominance.

Here is a list that may help with the making of that map: Compilation of "Summary of Valid Votes Cat for Each Candidate Provincial General Election - 2018" provided by Elections Ontario

Lyra Evans

edit

Coodtec I do understand that all sources in the candidates graph have been removed since the official candidate list is out. However, Lyra Evans got province-wide coverage for being the first transgender candidate in a provincial election. The point of this note (and its sources), which is not in the box and so not like the others, is to show that. Emass100 (talk) 19:55, 30 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Except that she wasn't the first transgender candidate in a provincial election (Christin Milloy beat her to that by six years), and when a premature candidacy article about her was attempted on the grounds of her purported firstness, it didn't show any evidence of coverage beyond Ottawa's local media. She was merely the first transgender candidate for her own party, not the first ever, and the amount of coverage she got for it wasn't nearly as geographically or numerically unusual, compared to "what every candidate always gets", as claimed. This page is very very busy

edit

I've had this concern for awhile now, and given that the election is over I was wondering if others had it as well - this election page seems very, very busy. Yes, this is an encyclopedia and all information is welcome, but at some point I have to ask if, for example, the "incumbents who aren't running, their nominated successors, and who won after" table is really necessary. Is there some things we could trim down here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jebussez (talkcontribs) 00:52, 9 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Some of the tables could certainly be made collapsible by default, such as the cqndidates by regions. --Aréat (talk) 07:23, 9 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
Or it could be carved out into separate articles, to create an ensemble such as the one surrounding Canadian federal election, 2015 within Template:Canadian federal election, 2015A.Raellerby (talk) 11:31, 11 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Where are the "Results of the Ontario general election, 2018?"

edit

When I try to edit an item in the Detailed analysis section, I find: "===Detailed analysis=== "Results of the Ontario general election, 2018"

But where is it? Presumably a hidden category page, but how do I find it to edit it?

The final 2018 stats from Elections Ontario are here: https://www.elections.on.ca/content/dam/NGW/sitecontent/2018/results/officialresults-yellowbook/electionstatisticsfromrecords/pdf/Provincial%20General%20Election%20Turnout%20-%201867%20to%20Present.pdf

They show the final turnout was not the 58% widely reported on election night, but 56.67%. I have made that correction in the opening panel, but not (yet) in the "===Detailed analysis==="

This is a reference to data contained in an underlying template. Just key in "Template:" followed by "Results of the Ontario general election, 2018", and you'll be able to open it up.Raellerby (talk) 12:45, 24 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
I thought this helpful hint to edit the template would have been taken up by now. I've gone ahead and done it myself.Raellerby (talk) 14:51, 1 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
