Mann

edit

Where do you got to know that his name is Mann and not Man? I'm not saying it's wrong, but wonder in which episode you get to know. And I think the article is kind of messy and needs some headlines. --NorwegianMarcus 14:31, 16 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I made some headlines but I'm not really sure about the last one. But I can't leave it out of there, we got to have headlines so I made one that can cover pretty much. Isn't that better than not have any? Help me out of this. Thanks. --NorwegianMarcus 14:48, 16 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

It is actually Otto Mang. It appears to be Mang, as seen on his probationary driver's license. This can be seen in season 3, disc 4, episode 4 of the DVD version (The Otto Show), at about 21:26 minutes. I can upload a screencap, but that would probably violate copyright stuff, so I won't. If anyone cares to verify this for me before I go and move the page, just leave me a message with an email to send it to. koolman2 10:46, 20 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

If you are sure this is correct, feel free to edit the article. Also, film and television screenshots are fair use, for critical commentary and discussion of the cinema and television. Which means since it's a matter of the characters name, we would love a screenshot of his license! - Adolphus79 10:48, 20 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
As you can see in the article now, the picture of his last name is somewhat obscured. If you say it looks close enough, then I'll go ahead and move the article. koolman2 11:09, 20 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Looks like Mang to me... I'm not sure about a redirect though, since Mann is his commonly accepted last name... but certainly a comment in the article that "in one episode his driver's license appears to read 'Otto Mang'..." or something... maybe give the issue a couple days for the other Simpsons geeks to come around... - Adolphus79 11:17, 20 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well I did do that in the discussion, but it kinda just floated away. I'll put a (very) small disclaimer next to his name in the main article. koolman2
Bah, someone noted that his name on the official website is set as Mann. I guess it is his name! koolman2 19:31, 20 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
According to this http://www.shoutwiki.com/w/images/simpsons/b/bd/Revenge_list_-_panorama.jpg his surname is Man. Since this is the most recent episode with his name it should count as the most canon? 222.152.96.67 (talk) 07:23, 4 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
No, one that is an unreliable wiki, and 2, where did this image come from? I don't recall it in an episode. CTJF83 chat 07:45, 4 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
It is from the episode 'The Fool Monty', a new season 22 episode that some people haven't seen yet. Also, this has nothing to do Wikisimpsons. I saw the episode and saw the list in the picture and looked for it online, the only place I found it was Wikisimpsons so I just used that site to link to the image here. 202.20.103.137 (talk) 02:42, 16 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Ok, best to go by what the official site says, and it has Mann. Like every animated show, there are often continuity issues. CTJF83 chat 01:18, 24 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

It’s Mann on Simpsons Wiki CodingCatSpeedySlothSimpsonsFan (talk) 09:40, 1 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Autobahn?

edit

Since when is Otto's name a play on the word 'Autobahn'? I would have thought it was a play on the word 'ottoman'... Gorman 02:03, 21 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I agree, the first thing I thought of when I saw this name was the Ottoman Empire... Valhallia 11:38, 18 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Or, you know, an ottoman. That was my assumption. But there's definitely an "auto" (as in "automobile" or "autobus") pun in there too.--Tellybelly 20:19, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Otto Mann was also an occasional alias for Automan US 71 (talk) 14:07, 4 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Otto Mann is a reference to Automan. The connection is the reckless way that they drive. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.109.207.105 (talk) 18:23, 13 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Whoa!

edit

According to the The Seven-Beer Snitch, isn't his last name Otto? When he and Homer take the urine tests for the prison job, Homer's test cup says "Simpson" and Otto's says "Otto" - doesn't this mean his last name is Otto as well, or he has no last name? It should mean one of the two.

Or that Homer wrote his last name, while Otto wrote Otto. NorwegianMarcus 08:37, 19 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

He's just TOO REAL to use his last name. --Alx xlA (talk) 05:00, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

His last name is Mann CodingCatSpeedySlothSimpsonsFan (talk) 09:41, 1 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Picture

edit

This article needs a better picture. The current one only shows Otto's face and is of poor quality. Perhaps we could get the original illustration by Groening with Otto doing air guitar? PowderedToastMan 21:11, 5 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Did he get killed?

edit

In 24 minutes, Otto was stopped on train tracks when the train was about to hit him. Did that kill him? I guess it's too early to tell. 68.151.33.139 14:02, 24 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

No. -- Scorpion0422 14:05, 24 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Nope he did not, but you’d think his exposure to drugs would have killed him? CodingCatSpeedySlothSimpsonsFan (talk) 09:39, 1 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Merge discussion

edit

I believe that this article should be merged; not as a disparage to the project, but it's clear that there hasn't been any worthwhile editing of the article besides adding original research, and the discussion page hasn't had a user edit since 2007 [besides this of course]. Anyway, perhaps the content to save this article exists, but until it can be shown [and if you can just find the links I wouldn't demand them be inserted; as long as they can clearly be employed in the future]. So anyway, ITT discussion! - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! Now, he can figure out the length of things easily. 08:00, 3 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Age

edit

Was just watching the episode "The Otto Show", and near the end he shows his new driver's license, which states that his date of birth was 01-18-63. The episode was released in 1992, which makes him at the very least 29 years old, assuming he hasn't aged in the last 19 years. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.191.253.197 (talk) 04:48, 19 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Merging proposal

edit

Not notable, does not meet the general notability guideline (no third-party sources), entire page is merely a plot summary which is discouraged on Wikipedia. This article will be merged in a week or longer if no real objections are made and no efforts have been done to improve this article's status. Androids101 (talk) 00:16, 12 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

German descent?

edit

When or where do we learn that Otto's ethnic heritage is German? I'm assuming this information comes from somewhere, and is not solely on the basis of his name. I mean, my name is Ryan, but I'm not even slightly Irish. Seems like it needs a citation. Also, is that important enough to his character to be in the very first sentence? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.215.194.2 (talk) 07:01, 17 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
