Initial Comments: This article passes the quick-fail criteria...the references look like they are in decent shape...picture copyrights seem to check out. My requirements for GA passage:

  1. Add a section summarizing the game up to the time of the fight, something titled like "Before the Brawl" (I'll leave it up to you to pick a better name for the section). This section should answer the question; did any previous incidents in the game lead to Artest and Wallace to push and shove each other near the end of the game? I'd like to see this section be at least two paragraphs in length. This section also needs to reiterate the day, venue, venue location, and teams competing, since the introduction paragraph should only be considered a summary of the article as a whole.
  2. Create a custom Infobox what will give readers vital info at a glance. I suggest making it something along the lines of the one used for the AMP Energy NHL Winter Classic. The Infobox for this article could include standard things like the score after the end of each quarter, attendance, and the exact time during the game play was suspended. You may wish to incorporate the current ESPN screen capture into the Infobox, or move the picture into the "Altercation" section; it's completely up to you.
  3. In the second paragraph of the "Altercation" section, wikilink the first mention of Jermaine O'Neal in the text.
  4. For reference #1 [1], the date of publication listed in the reference should be changed from November 19, 2004 to November 21, 2004. November 21 is the last time thewebpage was updated, and this is the publication date that should be cited.
  5. The authors of references #13, 15, and 17 needed to be cited in their corresponding references.
  6. The Associated Press should be cited as the author of references #14, 30, 38, and 44.
  7. In reference #27 [2], the date of the radio broadcast (December 8, 2004) needs to be cited.
  8. In the second sentence of the third paragraph under the "Suspensions" section, fix the typo "The NBA's argued that under the terms..." so it reads "The NBA argued that under the terms...."
  9. The first sentence under the "Teams after the brawl" section needs to be rewritten. Instead of "The Pacers and Pistons played for the first time on December 25 at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.", how about something like, "The Pacers and Pistons played their next game against each other on December 25 at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis." The point is that Dec. 25, 2004 was not the first time the teams played each other :)
  10. The first two sentences of the "Teams after the brawl" section needs to be merged into the paragraph that follows them. In general, complete paragraphs are defined as three sentences or more. Just created a transition to "On February 17, 2005, the NBA imposed new security..." by saying something like "Months later on February 17, 2005, the NBA imposed...."
  11. Wikilink to "mL" milliliters and "ounces" in the "Teams after the brawl" section.
  12. Rename the "Teams after the brawl" section to something more descriptive and accurate, like "Events after the brawl."

Suggestions for future improvement:

  • Quotes from players, coaches, and perhaps even the fans involved would be a great addition to the article through the use of quote boxes. Considering that fan/player violence is so rare, I'm especially interested to hear direct quotes from the fans involved about their take on what happened.
  • I noticed ESPN is heavily referenced; try and mix it up a little by attempting to find references from the major newspapers of both Detroit and Indianapolis, or any other reputable news sources.
