Protection

edit

It is disappointing that administrators continue to make non-urgent edits to this article while it is protected from the balance of Wikipedia editors. It is unnecessary and creates an "us and them" perception. I have no problem with admins removing controversial material during a period of edit protection. The recent edits fail that criterion. I recommend the article be unblocked. The blocking summary calls for reliable sources for the hospitalisation, however, reliable sources such as this can't be added while the article is blocked.--Lester 01:54, 5 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
This hasn't turned up in other news sources yet. I hope the ABC hasn't jumped the gun. Let's just leave protection in place for a few hours until another official announcement is made. I'd rather err in favour of Ms. Wriedt's privacy. Peter Ballard (talk) 02:05, 5 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Here's another article from The Examiner. -- Longhair\talk 02:08, 5 August 2008 (UTC) This article is now behind a paywall. -- Longhair\talk 02:37, 5 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Unprotected, protection was from yesterday because the information was unverifiable. Gnangarra 02:10, 5 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've removed the claim of suicide again - I know it is probably true, and in the next few hours there will be confirmation that can be used, but the ABC report merely says that staff have been reportedly briefed, which isn't the same as an official announcement. Given that the announcement is due soon, I think it is better to hold off for a couple of hours until then. - Bilby (talk) 04:01, 5 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Looks like official confirmation will take a bit longer, after all. Although the ABC is referring to the attempted suicide claims as speculation again. - Bilby (talk) 06:22, 5 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Lewd remarks

edit

The article currently says Wriedt was the subject of a comment by Sam Newman. That's ridiculous. Why do we beat around the bush and not say wat it was. Wriedt was subjected to "lewd remarks". That's how the references and the involved parties describe it. There is a big difference between lewd remarks and a comment. Considering the events that followed a week later, it's an important distinction.--Lester 01:54, 5 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Another option is that you are welcome to quote the actual remark here and let the reader decide. Wikipedia is not censored in this regard. Barrylb (talk)
