Can anyone shed any light on his life between 629 and 639? Srnec 04:47, 7 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Riché, Les Carolingiens, pp.29–30, thinks Pippin was rusticating, or keeping out of King Dagobert's way, in the period 629–639. When the copy of the Dictonary of the Franks arrives, I'll double-check that. Bouvier-Ajam's Dagobert says much the same: retired to his estates. Angus McLellan (Talk) 11:34, 8 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
The Dagobert page has mention of a rebellion led by Pepin in 632. Do you know what that's about? Srnec 05:19, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Carloman

edit

Pipera (talk) 02:47, 17 December 2023 (UTC) suggest you all read https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Pippinid-1 as Carloman as his father is nonsense. I trust what is there at leats it is a group effort.https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Pippinid-2 The parents listed for this individual are speculative and may not be based on sound genealogical research. Sources to prove or disprove this ancestry are needed. Please contact the Profile Manager or leave information on the bulletin board. :The parents of Pepin I of Landen are UNKNOWN.[4][1]https://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/FRANKSMaiordomi.htm#_ftnref16 His [father] [Carloman] (according to Fredegar),[1] has been left as a courtesy to fanciful genealogists, but a speculative connection to Gertrude of Bavaria as mother has been removed.Reply

Neither Wikitree nor Medlands are considered reliable sources on Wikipedia. --Kansas Bear (talk) 14:42, 17 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
But in this case it is Wikipedia making the bold claim, not the other websites. I think it is worth worrying about. WP is citing Fredegar and this is clearly also NOT a reliable source (also according to WP policy).--Andrew Lancaster (talk) 22:21, 4 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Bürgermeister des Palastes https://de.frwiki.wiki/wiki/Maire_du_Palais under Hauptbürgermeister des Palastes there is no Carloman. This is going back to 561.He first appeared in 622 prior to this there is no recorded history of this person. In relation to the supposed father Carloman he was not in any form a Mayor of the Palace. There was a Carloman he was the brother of Karl de Gross (Charlemagne) this was sometime in the mid 700's.
Carloman should be doubted or rejected as the name of Pippin's father was put forward by Karl August Eckhardt in 1965, repeated and amplified by him in 1975. His argument was basically from onomastics turned upside down and inside out - he arbitrarily considered that the name Carloman was a fiction invented in order to provide a namesake ancestor for a few
of his descendants. Why this could not have been his real name transmitted to the same descendants was not explained.

https://www.bartleby.com/lit-hub/lives-of-the-saints/volume-ii-february/b-pepin-of-landen/ states - ] HE was son of Carloman, the most powerful nobleman of Austrasia, who had been mayor to Clotaire I. son of Clovis I.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clovis_I there is no mention of Carloman. See see this article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carloman_(mayor_of_the_palace). https://freepages.rootsweb.com/~tatro/genealogy/gp2190.htm this is unreferenced. Carloman Mayor Of The Palace Of AUSTRASIA is fictitious he was never this.
I leave you to ponder this. Pipera (talk) 03:07, 8 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Pipera: it could take a long time before anyone fixes these things. One of the biggest problems with our articles for people in this period is the lack of people working on them in a thorough way. What the articles need are more people who are willing and able to cite more recent secondary literature.--Andrew Lancaster (talk) 09:28, 9 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
KATALOG DER DEUTSCHEN NATIONALBIBLIOTHEK
https://portal.dnb.de/opac/simpleSearch?query=carloman&cqlMode=true
Does not result in a positive search for this person, there is a Karlmann, Hausmeier 715-754 (Geburtsjahr ca.) he appears centuries later as decedndant on a later branch of the tree. He is the son of Karl 'Martell' Hausmeier von Neustrien und Austrasien and Chrothrudis.
This has to be removed or can I do it? Pipera (talk) 21:03, 10 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
