Semi-adhesive surfaces, etc
editHi! First-time commenter, so apologies if I'm violating any conventions. I did a quick read of the Talk guidelines before posting this. Came to this page to find out what "memo pockets" are in Amazon descriptions of photo albums, so an explanation of this might be helpful to readers. Also, I was looking for the technical term for those type of photo album pages where the entire page is sticky and you can put any size photo onto the sticky page and cover it with the attached plastic so that I could put that in my search terms. I suppose what I would suggest is an entire section devoted to the various names of the parts of a physical photo album would make this an even stronger section. Thanks.
After more searching for photo albums, I came across a number of confusing terms. What is a "magnetic" page versus a "self-adhesive" page and is there a difference if it is or is not "repositionable." These would be further photo album terms that I think would be great if this article defined. Thanks!
history of photo albums
editThis only covers contemporary photo albums. What about the history of photo albums? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.109.213.106 (talk) 01:41, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
external link for photograph album page
editHi
A company that I have used in the past produces Flush mount Albums as well as Self-mount Albums, two different types of photograph album that are discussed in the Photograph Album page. I feel that they may be a good site to have an external link to. Their website is below.

- Oppose. Common name where? Evidence? I'd personally always use the full version. It flows better. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:53, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
- Necrothesp, how about this evidence? -- Hoary (talk) 09:04, 19 July 2018 (UTC)
- But take a look at this as opposed to this. I think we've got an ENGVAR issue here. Yes, I would agree photo album appears to have become a little more popular even in British English in recent years, but not overwhelmingly so. Not enough to move from the proper title to the abbreviated version. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:29, 19 July 2018 (UTC)
- The shorter version seems more common than the longer: in Britain (but hardly so), in the US (and considerably), and indeed in the world as a whole (and considerably). Is British usage of particular importance here? -- Hoary (talk) 00:36, 20 July 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, because ENGVAR states that an article should not generally be moved from the style in which it is written without good reason. -- Necrothesp (talk) 15:33, 23 July 2018 (UTC)
- I notice "color", which I think is unusual in Britain. Is the style nevertheless British? (This mostly unsourced and rather ghastly article does talk about "historybook", which to me somehow doesn't look either British or American.) -- Hoary (talk) 22:37, 23 July 2018 (UTC)

- Oppose enough to !vote but not enough to argue about it. (Notice that this article is literally about physical albums of photographs, not, like, Flickr or whatever.) --Quuxplusone (talk) 05:29, 23 July 2018 (UTC)
- Support per Google Ngram showing that "photo album" is the dominant usage within English over the alternatives. While usage difference is narrower in British English, it still dominates and is not confusing, so this is an opportunity for WP:COMMONALITY. I don't think a case can be made that this usage trend will reverse itself, especially in the era of smart phones and cloud services which overwhelmingly use "photo album". I also note that literally all of the current citations used in this article use "photo album" - even three from The Guardian, a UK source. -- Netoholic @ 08:57, 23 July 2018 (UTC)
- Support per WP:COMMONNAME. I repeated Netoholic's analysis in Google Trends, and it's not even close. This even applies in the UK. — Newslinger talk 22:14, 23 July 2018 (UTC)

Discussion
editThis would overwrite a previous move 20:03, 21 December 2006 Pinkville (talk | contribs | block) . . (32 bytes) (+32) . . (moved Photo album to Photographic album: "photo" is informal and unencyclopaedic, "photographic" is better) and together with 03:15, 22 January 2007 Quuxplusone (talk | contribs | block) . . (30 bytes) (+30) . . (moved Photographic album to Photograph album: Correct expansion of "photo"; the album itself is not photographic. Also see Google.) would complete a circle of moves. Relisting in the hope of building consensus on a title. Andrewa (talk) 12:59, 22 July 2018 (UTC)
- Pinging Pinkville (optimistically, as he hasn't edited for three months) and Quuxplusone. -- Hoary (talk) 05:13, 23 July 2018 (UTC)
- Very good action IMO, I probably should have done it myself. Andrewa (talk) 10:40, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
