Appears in Google Earth

This island does actually appear in Google Earth (at least in the current version) when turning on borders. It lies off the coast of Chile, about 1000 miles from Santiago. However, that does not prove that it isn't indeed a phantom island. Anyone who knows this for sure? If so, I guess Google Earth is wrong :) how embarrassing for them... It still appears on navigation charts

edit

This controverted "island" is still drawn by Chilean cartographic maps made by the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Chilean Navy [|"SHOA", Servicio Hidrográfico y Oceanográfico de la Armada], like charts numbered 14, 22 or 90(900) and still published by the Service.

Podestà also appears in the World Atlas of MS Encarta, but as an unnamed piece of emerged land in the middle of the south Pacific Ocean.

It is strongly recommended to ask the SHOA about this situation at this mail: [[1]] —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 201.246.90.12 (talk) 18:57, 16 December 2006 (UTC).Reply
