Presidente Médici (disambiguation) → Presidente Médici – "Presidente Médici" is a Portuguese-language term for Emílio Garrastazu Médici. It is also the name of two municipalities and an airport, named after him. At present the term redirects to the article on the former president. It seems unlikely that this person is the Primary Topic in English language Wikipedia - ie that someone searching this encyclopedia on "Presidente Médici" would be overwhelmingly more likely to be searching for him than for the two places and the airport put together. No, an English speaker would call him President. But um, "an English-speaker reader"... Who are you? Call me suspicious, but you have exactly 20 edits on this Wikipedia, and you jump straight into this discussion with a strong (and misguided) opinion. --Midas02 (talk) 17:53, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

• Support Per PamD's arguments.
  • This is English Wikipedia, and we would refer to the person as President, not Presidente. The towns, however, are called Presidente, and would therefore be referred to as such in English as well
  • A google search on Presidente M. only returns Portuguese-language links! Search on President M. and you get English-language links as well.
  • The string "Presidente Medici" isn't even mentioned in the article

• Support There is a lot of precedent for PamD's proposal. In addition to the sound arguments already presented, I would like to point out that it is extremely unlikely for a Brazilian (or other Portuguese speaker) to refer to the man as Presidente Médici. For one thing, Portuguese naming conventions are very different from American or British customs. We have President Dilma, President Lula, etc., as examples of referring to the president by first name (even in official documents, on the news, etc.). The title "presidente" itself is avoided when referring to leaders (like Médici) who were in power during the military dictatorship. That may be a little more trivia than everyone was bargaining for, but I think it goes a long way to explaining why Presidente Jânio Quadros, Presidente Dutra, Presidente Getúlio, etc. all avoid linking the man altogether. giso6150 (talk) 18:18, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
• Support, for all the reasons given above. This is a very low-traffic page. Google, which is usually pretty good at anticipating what people are likely to look for presents the larger municipality as the first choice. I don't think we can have any confidence in guessing what readers might expect in this case and a disambiguation page seems the best default. older ≠ wiser 00:08, 25 February 2016 (UTC)
