Article name

My moves away from Provo (UTA station) have been reverted twice, with comments on my talk page, so I'll explain here. The construction "Provo (UTA station)" is deprecated per the WP:USSTATION guideline. According to that guideline, "articles should be titled by their common name [in this case "Provo"], followed by 'station' if not already part of the name." In this case, Provo station isn't available due to Provo station (Amtrak), so further disambiguation is required. The guideline recommends disambiguating by one of four ways: state, city, system, or line. In this case, state and city don't work as both stations are in Provo, Utah. The system's article is title FrontRunner, so that would seem to be the logical disambiguator. As it's also a bus station we might could do Provo station (Utah Transit Authority) instead, although that isn't very WP:CONCISE. Or perhaps Provo station (UTA) if that's a WP:RECOGNIZABLE abbreviation. Either way, "Provo (UTA station" is deprecated.
I'd previously moved the article to Provo Intermodal Hub, as this title appears to be established in sources on Google News, which turned up the following sources from the local paper of record, the Provo Daily Herald:including:[1][2][3][4][5][6] If this isn't the WP:COMMONNAME, then the article needs to go by the other titling guidelines. It's true that other stations in the category still use the deprecated construction "xxx (UTA station)". However, those articles are the ones are out of step with the guidelines and consensus, and will be updated when other editors get around to them.--Cúchullain ^t/c 00:48, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

Looking around, if this includes bus and bus rapid transit, then perhaps "Provo station (Utah Transit Authority)" or "Provo station (UTA)" would be better titles. The only issue with that would be if the Utah Transit Authority also serves Provo station (Amtrak). If not, other options are fine as far as I'm concerned as long as they keep to the "Provo station (LINE)" (or another WP:COMMONNAME if one exists).--Cúchullain ^t/c 00:52, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

First of all, the issue of this article's name is not limited to this article, but applies to the nearly seventy other articles about stations owned and operated by the Utah Transit Authority (UTA).

Next, for clarification, the nearest service that UTA provides to the Provo station (Amtrak) is this station (the two stations are less than a city block apart), so there shouldn't any issue involving UTA service to that station confusing issue of naming this article.

The purpose of the WP:USSTATION guideline is to increase clarity and standardization. With at least seventy rail stations currently operated by UTA, and more than a dozen more planned for the fairly near future, whatever naming style is used for articles should be consistent (as much as reasonably possible). Having UTA as the almost exclusive public transit provider in the area is both an advantage and a disadvantage. Fortunately, UTA has (almost without exception) done a really good job of providing distinguishable names for its stations, has very rarely changed the name of an operational station, and (with the exception of Provo) shares the Greyhound Lines bus stations and Amtrak train stations in the area. Also, thankfully, very few of UTA's rail stations are known by any name(s) other than the one officially designated by UTA. Unfortunately, since UTA is the predominate public transit provider, it does not afford the option available in many other metropolitin areas of being able to distinguish nearby stations by the service provider/station owner.

Given the existing situation, none of the disambiguation options specified in the WP:USSTATION guideline really work for all (or even nearly all) of UTA's rail stations. Moreover, future plans only cause the guideline to fit even less.

1) As mentioned by Cúchullain, the option of naming articles by the (strictly) common station name doesn't work, nor does disambiguating by state.

2) The option of disambiguating by city doesn't work either since almost thirty of the existing rail stations are in a single city. (This problem was also addressed by Cúchullain.)

3) The option of disambiguating by line doesn't work either since not less than sixteen of UTA's existing rail stations are currently served by more than one line (with at least a dozen more anticipated to be added to that list fairly soon). Furthermore, of these sixteen stations, at least four are served by at least three lines and one is served by four lines.

4) The option of disambiguating by system doesn't work either since, of the sixteen rail stations served by more than one line, not less than six rail stations are served by more than one system (commuter rail, light rail, streetcar, bus rapid transit, etc.). In addition, at least two more stations will be added to that list soon and plans include the later addition of at least five more.

Therefore, the WP:USSTATION guideline does NOT adequately address UTA's rail stations--UTA's bus stations are, fortunatley, not an issue. Notwithstanding, since certain editors (NOT just the previously mentioned administrator) seem determined to force a guideline on a situation that the guideline does address, it would seem the least unpreferable option would be, as later suggested by Cúchullain, to rename the articles as "[UTA's designated station name] station (Utah Transit Authority)", in this case Provo station (Utah Transit Authority). While the UTA abbreviation is highly recognized locally, it would frequently be unclear to readers not familiar with Utah and could be confused with other similar entities, such as the Ulster Transport Authority. While the suggested and somewhat longer variation of the current article names--""[UTA's designated station name] (UTA station)"--may not be necessary for many of UTA's rail stations for the sole purpose of disambiguation, it would still be apprpriate to unify the stations by service proivder/station owner as well as to disambiguate from other stations (current and future) with the same common name. Almost a half dozen already need to be distinguished from rail stations outside Utah.

Finally, it is interesting to note that none of the proposed names for this station include the one that UTA has had signed on the three main entrances to the facility since it opened: "Provo Intermodal Center". However, the use of that name for this station would only work for this and the Orem (UTA station), or should that be Orem station (Utah Transit Authority), and not really solve the greater article naming issue. It is also interesting to note the ever increasing necessity of devoting time and effort to Wikipedia issues, rather than actually creating and improving articles. Ok, Provo station (Utah Transit Authority) would be fine. "Provo Intermodal Center" may work as well, but I've found few sources online that use that.[7][8] Do keep in mind that it's likely most of the other stations in the system won't need disambiguation at all, they'll go to just "xxx station", so this won't be as much of a problem.--Cúchullain ^t/c 12:55, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

Excrement and trash at Provo Central-Feb- 16-2020

Who can I notify about how bad an area is at our station? Please- it's right near the road ( freedom blvd)just 10 yards south of that..the area of concern, has an electrical box on sidewalk with a cinder block wall area consisting of a west and south walll /wind break area. Is just west by a few feet of sidewalk that runs north and south a long Freedom blvd. Please 🙏clean it!! Thanks!!! Cheriekimmoore (talk) 01:09, 17 February 2020 (UTC)
