Incorrect use of terms
editI don't think "psychological realism" and "psychological novel" are in any way synonymous. My understanding is that psychological realism is not the technique used in fiction where the reader is able to suspend disbelief and go along with the fiction. Fairy tales are not psychologically realistic, because we don't believe animals can talk; an example of in novel form is Cabell's Jurgen, A Comedy of Justice. Almost all novels in a bookstore today are psychologically realistic fiction; few of them are psychological novels.--74.95.125.166 04:47, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
- "Psychological realism" is a genre of literature and does not, as you say, refer to the "suspension of disbelief." This article defines "psychological realism" well enough. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.44.46.128 (talk) 18:43, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
Dostoevsky
editDostoevsky is the most important component of Psychological novel.--85.110.162.108 (talk) 20:26, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- And what does "Dostoevsky is the most important component of Psychological novel" mean? How can an author be a component of a novel? I'm assuming this is just a grammatical error. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.44.46.128 (talk) 18:43, 1 October 2009 (UTC) :/(SADLER)
- He is, he's what put this whole genre on the map for the world, and I've added him. (Alcibiades979 (talk) 15:58, 13 June 2016 (UTC))

Psychological novel → Psychological fiction – The name of this article implies that this genre is exclusive to novels. Kid299 (talk) 21:06, 29 April 2018 (UTC)--Relisting. Dekimasuよ! 00:35, 7 May 2018 (UTC)
- Support change, but support Psychological literature. "Novel" immediately feels wrong, a novel is a physical object. Psychological is a genre-characteristic for the literature inside the novel. The lede, "Psychological novel (also psychological realism) is a literary genre that" suggests "literature" is the word wanted. Google ngram does too. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 07:05, 3 May 2018 (UTC)
- Support - the lede does specify literature but under subgenres is a list of genres that are not specific to literature. Therefore, I support with changes to the lede. Alduin2000 (talk) 19:01, 6 May 2018 (UTC)
- Support: The psychological genre is not restricted to just novels; even films use it a lot. Kailash29792 (talk) 10:56, 9 May 2018 (UTC)

Incorrect reference
editFootnote 1 references The Penguin Dictionary of Literary Terms and Literary Theory, Third Edition (1991) J.A. Cuddon, Ed. p. 709. There is nothing on that page about psychological fiction or realism; rather, there's an article about the picturesque. This book does have a brief entry on the psychological novel, on p. 756, but what we find there does not substantiate what the article says. Cinoc (talk) 03:15, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
