Tournament info

edit

I edited the tournaments things and added some that were missing. I'm planing to work a little more on this. I'm missing info on the Pan American Games and have no info on the Central American games. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Concienciapr (talkcontribs) 01:05, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

check it out - Caribbean~H.Q. 03:31, 4 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Some of the info came from that site. I'm also working on getting a lot of information on the 1979 Pan American games. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Concienciapr (talkcontribs) 04:54, 7 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

One problem I see with the article is the fact that it only covers the male version of the team and based on the article's title it should cover a bigger scope, it should contain information about the female and minor versions of the team, that way with the info available we could create a FA caliber article and rename to National basketball program of Puerto Rico.- Caribbean~H.Q. 05:33, 7 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

^^Is there any way of finding info about the Central American and Caribbean Games? I know the team won the Gold medal in 2006... --BoricuaPR (talk) 03:10, 20 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

TO WHOEVER SAID THE PUERTO RICO UNIFORM OF THE 80'S WAS FASHIONED AFTER THE LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS UNIFORM, I REMIND YOU THAT THE TYPICAL PUERTO RICO UNIFORM EXISTED YEARS BEFORE THE LA CLIPPERS FRANCHISE BEGUN (1984).—Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.174.235.22 (talkcontribs)

Shouldn't this article's title be capitalized? Thief12 (talk) 18:11, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

FIBA Americas, Central American and More...

edit

I have updated as much info as I could for the moment. I also have a couple of questions.

  • Both at the FIBA´s and the FIBA Americas´ pages state that Puerto Rico won gold in the 1988 FIBA Americas tournament, while Brasil won silver. I have changed the info as such, but in the Brazil Basketball Federation page, there states that Brazil won gold and Puerto Rico silver. I have no idea how to verify this information. In the wikipage for other languages, appears Brazil with gold and Puerto Rico with Silver. Again, I made the changes based on the official data at FIBA´s.
  • I have found a source for the Central American Games. I have no idea if it is reliable or not. The link is in the article. Puerto Rico data is missing for 1938, 1946, 1950 and 1998. I also found some data that questions me. There it says that Puerto Rico won silver at the 1986 games, while I thought it had won gold.
  • I agree that the title of the article should be changed to "Puerto Rico Men´s National Basketball Team ". There should be independent pages for the women´s and the junior´s. The women have no Olympics or World tournaments, but plenty of FIBA Americans and Central tournaments. The junior´s have plenty of everything. This page would have too much data if both are included here.

Puerto Rico men´s national basketball team

edit

I went ahead and created the page Puerto Rico men´s national basketball team, since the information provided in this one is only for the men´s team, and it doesn´t include neither the women´s nor the junior´s teams.

I moved the history here. However, if the several result and medal tables are collapsed in templates, I think that we can easily include the women's and minor teams as well. - Caribbean~H.Q. 15:36, 3 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

After reviewing this article, I'm noticing a myriad of issues that I'm concerned about:

  • The WP:LEAD needs to be expanded.
  • One website is being used for the entire history? That strikes me as a bit odd, especially since I looked at the site and there's not much there.
  • The format for the history leans it towards being a bit recentist and really stat-based. It's not dangerously so in either case, but it's enough of an issue where the early part should be expanded and the recent part trimmed.
  • Also, those cites should be at the end of the paragraph rather than in the section.
  • 2005-2008: Please split that into multiple paragraphs. The 1990s and 2005 probably could be in two as well.
  • The text itself is virtually uncited after the history.
  • "Known as "The Magnificent Twelve", the Puerto Rico national basketball team has, since then, become a reference for world basketball, being a regular participant in world championship tournaments." Cite needed, plus not sure what you're getting at with 'become a reference'.
  • "At all, Puerto Rico has participated in 9 Olympics and 11 World Championships (having also already qualified for the 2010 Championship)," in all, you mean?
  • "Nevertheless, due to its outstanding performance and its successful track record within FIBA Americas, the Puerto Rican team is ranked 10th in the world by the FIBA ranking." Sounds POV unless you can cite.
  • The bolding of places in prose and the like isn't necessary: this one I fixed myself.
  • "Coming back from its 13th place debut at the 1960 Olympics in Rome," That's it? Add a bit more detail on that.
  • "attaining gold at two of the first four FIBA Americas Championships in 1980, and 1989, and at the 1985, 1987 and 1989 CentroBasket tournaments." Probably best to split them into two sentences, confusing as worded.
  • In general, you seem to throw around modifiers like "they did great" or "they did not do well" in your article much more frequently than should be done in an encyclopedic article.
  • Ref #6 (daniel santiago) is a deadlink.

As a result of problems with referencing, tone, and structure (the latter isn't a big deal, the other two are), I am going to have to fail this article as a GA. After everything is fixed, the article can be renominated at GAN, though a fresh set of eyes beforehand would do wonders for this article. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 00:40, 8 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Medal Count at FIBA Americas

edit

Both at the official FIBA's and the FIBA Americas' webpages state that Puerto Rico won gold in the 1988 FIBA Americas tournament, while Brazil won silver. I have changed the info as such. Here is the reference [1].--Coquidragon (talk) 23:26, 23 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Extra info

edit

We should add a Depth Chart of the team like most other national basketball team articles have. Also the teams they're currently playing for. Maybe the different squads, like the ones that were used the last two times/tournaments? --BoriPR (talk) 04:37, 29 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Most play in other leagues plus the local BSN.

edit

Please update their current teams, almost all are playing BSN 2605:BA00:8108:4EB:B8D4:1C4D:E6A2:179B (talk) 20:22, 5 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
