merge

edit

I think they should be merged. I also think some pictures of the tribuchets, cannons and the corn field are required.

I merged them and will look into pics. Please remember to sign your comments. --Rajah 00:14, 6 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Similar contest in Morton, IL

edit

It might be a good idea to list similar contests.--Will 03:47, 12 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

It does not make sense to link this article to Air guns as that topic does not discuss "pneumatic air cannons" (the link text). All guns discussed on that page are hand guns (pellet, BB, etc.) Will (Talk - contribs) 19:44, 28 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Merge?!?

edit

I'm Puzzled that "Punkin Chunkin" redirects here to Pumpkin chunking. The Punkin Chunkin festival in Delaware is considered the World Championship so I'd think more people would know of that than other "pumpkin chunking" festivals. I understand the merge, just think it was merged to the wrong page...

Thoughts???

The Tour de France is considered the world championship of (long distance) bicycling, but bicycling doesn't redirect there. Now, those topics are independently notable enough to have separate articles, while these aren't, but if that weren't the case, I think it'd be more appropriate to that the Tour as a major focus of the Bicycling article than vice versa, right? Same thing here.

I've just done a chunk - ha ha ha! - of editing on this not-very-well-done article, trying to make it clearer that it is about the activity rather than the most-publicized competition, as I think it should be. Did that help? - DavidWBrooks (talk) 15:24, 20 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Punkin chuckin

edit

For rhyming reasons, is that necessary?

Also if we do decide to keep that, why is pumpkin chucking written a second time after the rhyming phrase? 2601:283:4A80:E130:E14D:AC56:1168:ED51 (talk) 04:34, 27 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

The broader question is why is the article titled "Pumpkin Chucking" when all the major events, governing bodies, and almost all the cited sources refer to it as "Punkin Chunkin"?
I don't think "for rhyming reasons" is necessary. Perhaps a discourse on the regional difference in usage of "chucking" vs "chunking" would be appropriate; Chunking or chunkin is a regional dialect common in the southern US, while chucking is more common elsewhere. Since pumpkin chunkin originated in the south (Sussex County, Delaware is the south) we should use that phrase instead of the "bowlderized" Chucking.
