Old post

RTE is in a temp set, the new set will berevealed in a few weeks time. I think there should be mentioned.

Well there is a new look already in place.

POV

edit

This sounds a lot like marketing material, no?

- I would agree with you. It's totally promotional, and really is unnecessary. There is no need for a dedicated page on Wikipedia to toot the horn of the News team. It's not that relevant.

The image Image:Nuacht.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Proposed Deletion/Removal/Merge - May 2009

The result was keep. --  Cargoking  talk  16:16, 2 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Why is this page being permitted as an article. I don't see, as per Wikipedia guidelines, why it should require a separate article, and could not merely be placed under a subheading of RTE. I have raised the concern. Davidlive (talk) 11:20, 5 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

It sounds like you should've proposed a merge instead. Tomdobb (talk) 18:41, 5 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Suppose that's satisfactory! Thanks for that. Does anyone else think the RTÉ articles need serious fixing. Far too many, in my opinion. Davidlive (talk) 13:40, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

If most of the content from this page were moved to Radio Telefís Éireann, the RTÉ page would become quite large. Most other broadcasters have their main page and news page split. Thanks, CargoK user talk 11:54, 13 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

But is it necessary for such a small broadcaster, opposed to the likes of BBC for example, to have a dedicated page? I completely understand the length of the article being an issue, if merged with RTÉ, but other broadcasters appear to have separate News and Current Affairs articles because of independent status, such as the case of ITV being liked to a separate organisation, ITN. My main worry, in the best interests of Wikipedia and it's verifiability and access of credible, factual information, is that such pages are not edited and changed by the organisations of which the article relate to, thus turning it into advertisement filled, promotional content. It has been said before that such organisations do edit their content, and the content of others, for own personal reasons.

Davidlive (talk) 19:24, 13 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

If we merge this we will have to merge RTÉ Sport, RTÉ Television etc, with Radio Telefís Éireann itself. I though Wikipedia is about expanding. I think the significance of this article is pretty high. Can we stop this debate soon? This debate is pretty much dead and gone. Can we stop it, and remove the merge template? CargoK user talk 18:54, 7 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I disagree with a merger or a deletion. While I can accept the argument that the article may appear as advertisement perhaps this should be countered with verifiable 'negative' aspects which I have no doubt would be welcomed into the article.howth575 (talk) 20:17, 8 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Can this debate end soon? Can we keep it? CargoK user talk 20:21, 8 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
I would have doubts about merging as well, especially since this section of RTÉ now has its own template which makes it clear that (although incomplete) RTÉ News and Current Affairs has produced and continues to produce a lot of radio and television programmes "for such a small broadcaster". And that is another point - RTÉ, like BBC, has combined radio and television output for decades. Add to that the fact that its main rivals, TV3 (television, launched September 1998) and Today FM (radio, launched March 1997, - Newstalk is even newer to the national airwaves, launched 2006 but with only 80% coverage), are recent innovations and the people of Ireland weren't left with much else to watch for nearly forty years and listen to for over seventy years... added to that, RTÉ.ie: "As of 2007, it is among the top 5000 most visited websites globally, by Alexa rankings[1] and among the top 20 sites in Ireland[2], with certified impressions of over 55 million per month and almost 2.4 million unique users[3]" - surely some of these are going there for the news? So no, I oppose a merger. --candlewicke 23:59, 8 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
I think this debate is gone. I obviously oppose any change. I recently expanded the page, adding history. I also have expanded the RTÉ News and Current Affairs template. Can I have someone to second closing the merger?  Cargoking  talk  11:08, 28 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Oppose any merger or deletion. Page simply needs some balancing and restyling, perhaps.Plenty of references are now present too.howth575 (talk) 21:46, 30 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

RTÉ News and Current AffairsRTÉ News – Per WP:CRITERIA. A very basic search led to "RTÉ News" on YouTube, on Twitter, on "The official Facebook page of RTÉ News", a recent press release on its website, as well as on the logo which is included in the infobox. Perhaps the title could be moved but the opening sentence (which already includes "RTÉ News") could stay the same - similar to RTÉ and "Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ)"?
