Colombian Government just released report of events. He died this morning at 00:25 March 1. Accomplished with Colombian Air Force. Report indicates that Reyes was situated in an encampment on the ecuadorian side of the border. Colombian air forces attacked with care of not violating Ecuadorian air space. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.83.4.70 (talk) 15:26, 1 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

At the section of Notable Personel, of FARC-EP, it says: Raul Reyes (KIA). This is not true. He was not killed in action. He was killed, but while he was sleeping, and there was no armed activity going on around the period of time when he was killed. He had been recently negotiating, and was involved in an ongoing process of humanitarian exchange. So there is no way he was KIA, he was just murdered.141.30.219.173 (talk) 21:22, 5 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

That's one possible "moral" interpretation. In military terms, however, he was killed while serving as a member of an armed organization in a guerrilla base, in the context of an armed conflict, even if he wasn't specifically in combat at the time. I agree, we can't use heresay, no source for an alternative definition of KIA has been provided. Also, he was not sleeping, he was running away from the camp and stepped on a FARC land mine.--Pepik70 (talk) 12:06, 13 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Washington Post article: "In March 2008, according to nine U.S. and Colombian officials, the Colombian Air Force, with tacit U.S. approval, launched U.S.-made smart bombs across the border into Ecuador to kill a senior FARC leader, Raul Reyes. The indirect U.S. role in that attack has not been previously disclosed." http://www.washingtonpost.com/sf/investigative/2013/12/21/covert-action-in-colombia/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:30A:C06D:D600:A969:16EB:DC5F:9A4A (talk) 00:59, 1 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Aftermath

edit

I have deleted the section quoting Venezuelanalysis which questions the validity of the FARC computers. Venezuelanalysis is not a credible source, it is a wildly pro Chavez propaganda website and the article cited is editorial, not reporting. Notably, people who have tried to push the venezuelanalysis view in credible media outlets have had the story rejected (e.g. by the left leaning Guardian). There is no reason the article should devote space to the minority view of a highly biased organisation.

The 'Aftermath' is the Aftermath of the death of Raul Reyes, this article is not about Raul Reyes' laptop. So why does this section focus on a lengthy, argumentative debate on the validity of the laptop contents, when there is no evidence provided that, outside the highly partisan sources cited, that this is controversial? I think the aftermath that matters is a weakened FARC which went on to many other defeats, as the main article on FARC points out.

This section seems to have a bias problem. Interpol concluded that a) it was Raul Reyes' computer, and b) that it had not been tampered with by the Colombians. This is what matters. Yet this section wants to discuss file dates and other trivia - the main wikipedia article on the subject (2008_Andean_diplomatic_crisis) doesn't concern itself with such argumentativeness. --Pepik70 (talk) 19:56, 13 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

The earlier points are arguable (but I don't have time or energy to go into them), but the last one is certainly correct: the entire Aftermath section should be ditched, with relevant content merged to the crisis article. Only content specifically relevant to Reyes' bio should remain here. Rd232 talk 20:26, 13 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
