Kamban vs Valmiki ?
editDid Rajaji produce two versions of his Ramayana, as the third sentence of this article suggests ? if so, which is the "popular" version that is printed widely ? I could not access the source "Complete works of Gosvami Tulsidas. 4. Varanasi : Prachya Prakashan. 1978. pp. 419.", and am therefore asking here. Abecedare (talk) 20:17, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
- The Valmiki version was published in 1957, while the Kamban version was published in 1951. Bhavan's, the publisher says that the "current" book is based on the Valmiki version. However, the titles for both publications were the same, and this is quite confusing on everyone right now. e.g. The OCLC listing says Valmiki in the title, but Kamban in the description. Also, pure original research, there are some structural and contextual differences between this and Narayan's retelling of Kamba Ramayana. This listing at the Sahitya Akademi also shows that the book is based on Valmiki Ramayana. -SpacemanSpiff 20:52, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
- Wow! That is confusing. It would be good if we can find a single source explaining all this (perhaps a preface to one of the many editions and reprints). If I find anything, I'll add that to the article. Abecedare (talk) 20:59, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
