Rhyming slang
editRegarding the insertion made by 197.34.98.23 today: the rhyming slang definition is nothing to do with the topic of the article – we don't talk about feet in the article on plate or stairs in apple (see Rhyming slang). It could, I guess, go in the wiktionary definition wikt:Raspberry ripple. —SMALLJIM 19:42, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
- Agreed. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 19:44, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
Nonsense - the term raspberry ripple has the other meanings which are widely used yet derive from the original term. 'In Popular Culture' is the recognized Wiki heading for material like this. 197.34.98.23 (talk) 19:51, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
- What's your policy/guideline reference for this opinion? —SMALLJIM 19:54, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
- @197.34.98.23: In popular culture is used when the entity the article is referring to is referred to elsewhere, not when the term is blindly applied for something that is slang. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 19:56, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
- I disagree. See, among others, Mae West, where - in the in popular culture section - her name is used for a plethora of unrelated items. 197.34.98.23 (talk) 20:04, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
- Well that's interesting. There is the issue of balance, however. The mention in Mae West is a tiny proportion of the entire article, whereas in Raspberry Ripple, it amounts to nearly half the content. Overall, I'm not really interested in arguing about nipples and puddings right now. I'm inclined to leave it alone, even though there is a small consensus against you. Incidentally, are you going to try to add feet to plate (dishware) and so on, as above? —SMALLJIM 20:20, 21 June 2015 (UTC)

- Perhaps we should try to make the article longer in the ice-creamier parts, then... 197.34.98.23 (talk) 20:29, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
1.It would be good if you stopped starting messages with nonsense. 2. Just because something exist in on article, it doesn't necessarily mean it has to exist on another article as well. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 20:32, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
- This is crazy. Its use in rhyming slang is a noteworthy part of the term in popular culture in the anglosphere. Comparing page hits for the term as icecream and slang shows this. There is ample precedent for citing a term's use in rhyming slang in entries: e.g. Barnet Fair, Ruby Murray, stitching awl, J. Arthur Rank and many more. Furthermore, had you taken more care when editing, you would have noticed that you reverted an unrelated edit. Please take greater care when editing (for avoidance of doubt, I am 197.34.98.23 although the IP address has changed). 197.34.107.24 (talk) 09:23, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
Don't have an edit war here! Remember the options for dispute resolution. I'm not going to take part further. —SMALLJIM 10:06, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
