The USGS GNIS does not return a result for this particular landform in Alabama although there are two official ones by this name at other locations. RedWolf 04:45, Nov 19, 2004 (UTC)

Do you suggest an action? I do not know how to judge the value of GNIS's ommission for the purposes of the Wikipedia. I can assure you that everyone in Birmingham knows Red Mountain by that name.

I'm not directly contesting the existence of the landmark. I just found it curious that GNIS would not have an entry for it. Perhaps the latitude, longitude and elevation are incorrect in the article? They didn't match the two entries that GNIS returned for Alabama. GNIS actually returned 164 entries for "Red Mountain"! I established the latitude and longitude for Red Mountain's highest point in Birmingham using Acme Mapper. Since Red Mountain is a long ridge rather than a single peak, it is possible that the GNIS recognizes peaks at other locations. I'll clarify the entry when I have some time to do the legwork.

Yes, I think GNIS classifies it as a ridge as well not a summit. I originally searched for a feature type of "summit". Now that I search for a ridge, I get a result very close but the location is a bit off: 332912N 0864823W. RedWolf 02:03, Nov 20, 2004 (UTC)

Red Mountain

There is an identical article over at Red_Mountain. Does that need to be forwarded here or the other way around? Or does one of these need to be deleted? --MaxPower 20:10, 2004 Dec 13 (UTC)

I would suggest keeping Red Mountain (Alabama) as the correct article name as there are no doubt many Red Mountains in the world which will someday be described here. Dystopos 00:06, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I went ahead and added an image taken from Red Mountain of Birmingham, but am leaving the photo needed parameter in the project banner so maybe someone will try to get one of the mountain itself. Altairisfar (talk) 13:39, 7 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I just added a picture of a portion of the cut. Still, a picture of the mountain itself would be good! LadyofShalott 15:00, 7 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
