Talk:Ridley College (Melbourne)

Layout

edit

Ridley, like Moore College in Sydney is Anglican and focused on theological training, with that in mind I added the box thingy.Knobbly 20:39, 9 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Naming Issues

edit

This is linked in some ways to the residential / theological aspect. Ridley's offical name I think is 'Ridley Theological College' not Ridley College (University of Melbourne). Knobbly 00:13, 13 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

The official name is just Ridley College like the website. I think the bracket containing (University of Melbourne) is used for consistency with other colleges associated with Uni Melb and maybe to disambiguate from other possible Ridley colleges.Wai Hong 08:42, 13 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
This is the tricky question because is Ridley, first and foremost a theological college or a residential college, and which should the title of the article emphasise?Knobbly 20:44, 13 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I think we have another problem - it probably shouldn't say "(University of Melbourne)" at all now. I am not so convinced that Ridley College is first and foremost a theological college - look at their website - accommodation comes first, followed by theology.
Also they do not really identify themselves as "Ridley Theological College" and are simply know as "Ridley College" in the community. On google.com.au, pages from Australia search "Ridley College" gets about 16,400 hits vs about 328 hits from "Ridley Theological College".
Since there is another "Ridley College" in Canada which took the Wiki name first, how about "Ridley College Melbourne"? TomGW 20:33, 26 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
I propose Ridley College (Melbourne), and also point the Ridley Theological College redirection there. Since there's a little disagreement, I'm putting in a proper RM. De Guerre 00:54, 9 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Ridley has recently changed its name & branding and I've moved the page to reflect this.ArthurChance (talk) 06:56, 28 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ridley College (University of Melbourne)Ridley College (Melbourne) — Ridley College is no longer affiliated with the University of Melbourne. The alternative suggested name is Ridley Theological College. —De Guerre 01:03, 9 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Discussion

Any aditional comments:
  • One more thing. Once we've settled on a name for this page, we should probably propose a RM for Ridley College (making it Ridley College (school) or something), and turn Ridley College into a disambiguation page. Judging by Google results alone, there are only two institutions in the world called "Ridley College", and while the one in Melbourne is the more prominent of the two. Regardless, proposing that the main page become a dab is being a nicer citizen. De Guerre 01:48, 10 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
    • I moved this one per request; however, we normally avoid 2-item dab pages: in this way, a) it's pretty much guaranteed that someone will erroneously link to it and b) without the dab page, at least 50% people who search will arrive at the deseired page, while no one would otherwise. Just pick the more famous of the two (no matter how small difference) and let it be the primary target. Duja 12:02, 15 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hehe, I certainly don't mind if Ridley College (Melbourne) occupies Ridley College, but I'm pretty sure the Ridley College people won't be so happy. TomGW (talk) 17:19, 9 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Ridley logo.jpg

edit

Image:Ridley logo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Ridley MelbourneRidley College (Melbourne) – The College has changed its name, a duplicate article has been created over a redirect at Ridley College, Melbourne - note Melbourne is not part of the name. There is an existing redirect at Ridley College (Melbourne) -- Paul foord (talk) 08:02, 8 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Ridley College (Melbourne)Ridley College – This is an institute of higher education, whereas the current Ridley College article is a K-12 school. I can't see how a K-12 school deserves to be the main term while a university-level institution doesn't – so, I think the two articles should be swapped in terms of which one is the main term. SomethingForDeletion (talk) 20:58, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Comment. This move request is malformed as it doesn't account for where to move the article currently at Ridley College. In addition, a title swap would not make sense since the subject currently at Ridley College has no association with any subject named "Melbourne". Steel1943 (talk) 21:35, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, please excuse the malformedness. What I was suggesting is something like: "Ridley College (Melbourne)" → "Ridley College", "Ridley College" → "Ridley College (Ontario)" (or "(Canada)" or "(K-12 school)" or whatever). I'm just not sure of the mechanics of proposing that. Do I have to propose the two page moves separately, or can I somehow do them both together? SomethingForDeletion (talk) 23:25, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
I created another move request to move the other Ridley College out–Talk:Ridley College#Requested move 23 May 2023. I don't know if I should withdraw this one until the outcome of that one is determined? SomethingForDeletion (talk) 23:56, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
