Batch 3???? vs new OPVs

The new OPVs https://www.gov.uk/government/news/first-steel-cut-on-new-patrol-ships are hardly close to the River Class. Unless others object, I will soon reword that section. It is not Batch 3 but a new class with first ship named HMS Forth.Phd8511 (talk) 13:08, 10 October 2014 (UTC)

Launch Dates?

HMS Forth was floated off the launch barge into the water over Sat/Sun Aug-21 2016- well before any official ceremony. Does that count as the 'launch' date? Yes, the ceremony can happen before, during or after launch. So evidently she has been launched. But I think we could do with a source as to when the actual date is. Rob984 (talk) 16:25, 22 August 2016 (UTC)

Range

I was just watching an interview with Lt Commander Steve Banfield, commanding HMS Severn, from 2015.

At 1:13 seconds he gives the following stats for his Batch 1 ship. Displacement: 1,800 tonnes; Length: 80m; Company: 35; Max Speed: 21kn; Range: 15,000 mi

The extra 100 tonnes, extra knot and 5 extra complement are all no biggy, but the range discrepency is huge! 5,500nm is the published figure, far less than the 13,000nm the captain claims. Was that a slip? Jonh333 (talk) 10:58, 21 August 2019 (UTC)

If it were an aircraft -- which of course it is not -- then one would be considering the possibility of one of the figures being the combat radius or similar, and one being the ferry range or similar, which would explain the second figure being more than double the first. What is the point of these vessels?

They're overkill for dealing with foreign fishing vessels poaching in our waters, they're not fast enough to deal with people or drugs smugglers or pirates (who presumably would use much faster vessels) and they're woefully underarmed to patrol the waters around the Falklands.
