Birth year

edit

There seems to be a concerted campaign by different IPs (although they may be the same person) to change the year of James-Collier's birth from 1978 to 1976. There was a brief discussion on this a couple of years ago. Does anyone know whether there's any basis for 1976? Is there a credible dispute about what year he was born? Naturally, the changes come with no explanations as to why, so it's hard to know whether the editor has a good-faith belief that the correct year is 1976 or is just being disruptive. Although not necessarily a reliable source, IMDb says 1978. However, when you do a Google search, you come up with many sites, none of which is necessarily reliable, that say 1976. If we have a bona fide dispute, we'll need to either source it or eliminate the birth date from the article.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:09, 21 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

I've done some research on my own, and based on several news sources (see here, here, here, and here) that list his age as of the time of publication, 1978 is not possible. Because there's apparently no controversy as to the month and day he was born, just the year, I'm going to change the article to be 1976. I will cite to one not-so-reliable source that gives month, day, and year, and then the the more reliable sources that support 1976 as the probable year. I will also put in an internal comment (which some people may actually read) not to change the birthdate without first raising it on the Talk page.--Bbb23 (talk) 17:36, 21 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Fake sources

edit

There is a chronic problem with sources in this article. The sources just do not support the information in the article. There were four sources for his birth date, but none of them contained his birth date (only one of them mentioned his birth year). Similarly, there were two sources for his son's name and birth year, but none of them mentioned it either. And the practice continues—the same sources were used for his daughter, too, even though they do not say anything about his daughter at all (the articles are older than his daughter). This has to stop. I don't know if people do it intentionally, but fake sources are unacceptable. They should be removed, unsourced information should be tagged and removed, too. In fact, WP:BLP says unsourced information should be removed immediately, without waiting for discussion.—J. M. (talk) 16:57, 25 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Caius G.: How strange. Issues like that are why I made myself learn source editing, I encountered too many issues with VE. Thanks for adding this notice onto here!  DarkGlow () 13:19, 7 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Compliment

Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed his skill in portraying Thomas on Downton Abbey.why haven’t we seen more of him ? He should be allowed to branch out into other kinds of characters. He is very very talented. Don’t typecast him in only gay parts.(that’s all I’ve ever seen him portray ) He is too talented to waste. He can do all kinds of parts and it’s obvious to the audience!!( He was brilliant in Downton Abbey )Bravo ! Mr James-Collier. I would love to see more of him. 2600:1700:7CF0:F5D0:884C:6828:1939:88F7 (talk) 21:49, 12 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
