Inaccuracies
editI think maybe the opening of this article is conflating two people. Definitely never speaker of the house of commons.Shtove 16:10, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
- I think that the two people are: -
- 1. Sir Robert Dillon (died 1579) - Jon G. Crawford, ‘Dillon, Sir Robert (d. 1579?)’, Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, Oxford University Press, 2004; online edn, Jan 2008 accessed 15 June 2014
- See the 1901 supplement to the original DNB http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Dillon,_Robert_(1500%3F-1580)_(DNB01) - "Dillon is said (Lodge, Peerage, ed. Archdall, iv. 154) to have been speaker of the House of Commons during Elizabeth's reign; but James Stanihurst was speaker in both the parliaments of 1560 and that of 1569.". I have therefore deleted the speakership category.
- 2. Sir Robert Dillon (c.1540-1597) - Jon G. Crawford, ‘Dillon, Sir Robert (c.1540–1597)’, Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, Oxford University Press, 2004; online edn, Jan 2008 accessed 15 June 2014

- Cheers. Will follow it up.-Shtove 22:51, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
I agree that the 2 Robert Dillons have been mixed up. I propose to create an entry for the elder Robert and amend the text for the younger Robert accordingly. Chrisdoyleorwell (talk) 18:41, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
Dear Chrisdoyleorwell, Moonraker, Alekksandr, John of Reading, Shtove. We are in 2022. The issues reported above have mostly been sorted out. Importantly, Chrisdoyleorwell created the article for the older Robert Dillon on 30 May 2020 and pushed it forward through 92 edits. He called it Robert Dillon (died 1580), but it has later been renamed Robert Dillon (died 1579) when this date of death was found more accurate. I think it might be time to rename the present article to give it a more distinctive name. I propose "Sir Robert Dillon of Riverston (c. 1540 – 1597)", but you may have better ideas. With many thanks and best regards, Johannes Schade (talk) 19:36, 10 September 2022 (UTC)
- I suggest entitling it "Robert Dillon (died 1597)" Alekksandr (talk)
Fine with me Chrisdoyleorwell (talk) 21:17, 10 September 2022 (UTC)
- I suspect I mixed the two men up, when I started the page, thanks to a source which did. Glad to see it has been sorted out. The referencing of this is very good in places but absent in others, so more work to be done. Yes, Robert Dillon (judge) will no longer do, as there are the two judges of the same name. I have to say Sir Robert Dillon of Riverston (c. 1540 – 1597) strikes me as very ponderous. Robert Dillon (died 1597) would be better in policy terms and also consistent with the other man. Moonraker (talk) 21:42, 10 September 2022 (UTC)
- @Moonraker, @Aleksandr, @Chrisdoyleorwell. The names "Robert Dillon (died 1579)" and "Robert Dillon (died 1597)" are very similar, too easy to confuse in my opinion. I feel we need to change both names. What about "Robert Dillon (c. 1500 – 1579)" and "Robert Dillon (c. 1540 – 1597)", or "Robert Dillon (1500–1579)" and "Robert Dillon (1540–1597)", or "Robert Dillon of Newtown" and "Robert Dillon of Riverston"? Best regards, Johannes Schade (talk) 08:10, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
- @Moonraker, @Aleksandr, @Chrisdoyleorwell. OK, mine seems to be a minority view. I have moved the file to "Robert Dillon (died 1597)". Thanks to all, Johannes Schade (talk) 07:32, 12 September 2022 (UTC)
