External links modified
editHello fellow Wikipedians,
I have just added archive links to one external link on Robert E. Lee High School (San Antonio). Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}}
after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}}
to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:
- Added archive https://web.archive.org/20100806120356/http://www.neisd.net:80/maps/campus/boundaries/maps06_07/leehs.pdf to http://www.neisd.net/maps/campus/boundaries/maps06_07/leehs.pdf
When you have finished reviewing my changes, please set the checked parameter below to true to let others know.

Name change
edit@John from Idegon:, I disagree with the revert. Even though the action was taken by the school board, it's clearly affecting the school and its future. Since no name change was specified yet, I did not actually change the name of the school article. WhisperToMe (talk) 01:04, 1 September 2017 (UTC)
- Right! It's news; Wikipedia is not a newspaper (I don't need to link a pillar policy for you, do I?) When the name change process is far enough along to say with sources that "Lee will become Foo on X date", then and only then is it appropriate to add it. The process is quite irrelevant to the school. Not seeing it. John from Idegon (talk) 01:11, 1 September 2017 (UTC)
- I strongly disagree that a decision to change the school's name is "quite irrelevant to the school." In Houston lawsuits were filed after the school board voted to change some confederate names, particularly at Lanier Middle School (Houston).
- I believe Wikipedia:What_Wikipedia_is_not#Wikipedia_is_not_a_newspaper in fact does not apply to this case. WP:NOTNEWS reads:
- "As Wikipedia is not a paper source, editors are encouraged to include current and up-to-date information within its coverage, and to develop stand-alone articles on significant current events. However, not all verifiable events are suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia. Ensure that Wikipedia articles are not:"
- Based on this, it's about including the important news and not the unimportant stuff. In practice, news is a crucial part of the Wikipedia experience.
- Even though we don't have a date on when the name is going to change, it's crystal-clear that the school's name is going to change. By not including that, an editor or reader may not realize that he/she needs to update the section. Some school articles are poorly patrolled and it's necessary to leave up edits like these to remind readers that they need to be updated.

- I agree with WhisperToMe: this information is clearly important enough for this subject to warrant a mention in this article. It has also crossed the threshold from "merely news" to "prominent news" as it's received national attention; I live in Delaware and this came up in my news feeds. ElKevbo (talk) 03:21, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
absolutely include info about the pending name change. Legacypac (talk) 04:00, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
- Comment I've removed the contested paragraph, as it was sourced to a "member since Sep 26 2016". If we believe that contributor, "the current high school name will remain intact through the remainder of the 2017-2018 school year". I also noted in the edit comment an "WP:UNDUE emphasis on an event in Virginia". Unscintillating (talk) 12:05, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
- What do you mean by "member since Sep 26 2016?" ElKevbo (talk) 13:49, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
- That is what is stated on the author's profile, [1]. Unscintillating (talk) 14:31, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for the clarification. The length of time a reporter has been employed by a publisher is utterly irrelevant. ElKevbo (talk) 15:04, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
- What is "utterly irrelevant" is the hyperbole. The key word in my quote was "member". How do you get from "member" to "employed"? Unscintillating (talk) 17:02, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
- @Unscintillating: From his profile he has an sacurrent e-mail address. Only employees would be given those kinds of e-mail addresses. Even if it was a freelance writer, AFAIK as long as the piece is subject to the publication's editorial standards it should be fine. WhisperToMe (talk) 00:42, 3 September 2017 (UTC)
- Specfically, she's the News Editor. This is a small alternative paper, but no reason to assume it's not RS. There seems to be significant coverage in the larger local press and in other state outlets, if needed. Kuru (talk) 01:02, 3 September 2017 (UTC)
- I don't know why the editors here are giving this source a free pass. If this person is the news editor, that means this source had no editorial oversight. Supporting evidence that hasn't been mentioned is that this person writes often enough for this paper that he doesn't seem to have time to have another job. Unscintillating (talk) 10:57, 3 September 2017 (UTC)
- It's common for editors to directly write articles themselves. If the editor himself/herself is writing an article and he/she is an employee of a trusted publication, that is the oversight. WhisperToMe (talk) 15:58, 4 September 2017 (UTC)

I see absolutely nothing wrong with including that the school board has agreed to change the name, we have several (local, but that's expected for a high school) sources that confirm the school board voted unanimously to change the name, even mentioning that there was a previous vote in 2015 that failed, and that in light of more recent events, the board believed that the current name was disrupting the students and thus went with it this time. We can also include the fact that the name change will not likely occur until the 2018-19 school year. This is all fine, and not a failure of NOT#NEWS as the triggering event (the school board vote) has happened. --MASEM (t) 13:38, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
- I'll withdraw my opposition. It may be a bit of knee jerk to the meta issue of trying to erase General Lee from our history. John from Idegon (talk) 16:31, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
- Certainly not the only knee-jerk opposition you have to adding anything noteworthy to a school's page, looking through your contributions makes this evident. 24.27.34.73 (talk) 12:53, 3 September 2017 (UTC)

- Leave it out until a new name has been announced, per WP:CRYSTAL. A board's decision that they want to change the name (without a determinate outcome so far) is not the same as the actual decision on a new name. — SMcCandlish ☺ ☏ ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ᴥⱷʌ≼ 02:05, 20 September 2017 (UTC)
- A new name has been announced: L.E.E. High School. WP:CRYSTAL does not mean future events cannot be referrred to at all. The first section states "Individual scheduled or expected future events should be included only if the event is notable and almost certain to take place." - A renaming would be notable and in that sense was almost certain to take place, and in this case it did. New mascot logo
editWould it be alright for someone change the mascot image in the righthand info box to the new service dog image? I came to do it myself, but I didn't know new accounts couldn't upload files. I was going to use this image. Skelico (talk) 17:41, 3 April 2018 (UTC)
- Doing this before the school district changes the website to reflect it would be inappropriate. John from Idegon (talk) 22:26, 3 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Skelico: @John from Idegon: Usually changes in Texas schools are effective July 1 of that year. Wait till July 1. WhisperToMe (talk) 19:53, 21 May 2018 (UTC)
