Roller (song) is valid

Not only is Roller (song) of significant value to the history of Canadian music, it's of great historical significance to rock band April Wine, who's music career spans a period of 39 years (1969 to present). Roller (song) was the one critical element which first earned April Wine international success, as well their first gold record south of the border. Roller (song) reached top-30 status on U.S. Billboard charts, where it remained for eleven weeks. The parent album (First Glance) remained on U.S Billboard's 200 albums list for an additional eleven weeks thereafter. This helped pave the road to further international exposure for the band, as well as surpassed their achievements in the years that followed.

The inclusion of Roller (song) does not make any bold statements or comparisons, nor is it a distraction within a main article. It's one simple line of a disambiguation page, which is used to help break down multiple meanings of a word or phrase, and assists readers with finding the specific information they seek. I respectfully disagree. At the very least, create the Roller (song) article before adding a link to it. Start with the information you put in above -- especially since you've already done the work of finding external citations. Those will help the resulting page survive a notability review. Once the page is up, I won't have any problems with adding back in the link. Until then, a broken link doesn't add anything to the article. --Mdwyer (talk) 19:17, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

I was actually thinking of creating an article as such, but most of the information I've just provided, already exists in the main April Wine article. I respect your right to respectfully disagree, but do find your edit personally selective. I assume you may lack knowledge or respect for older classic rock music, or the Canadian music scene in general. If it's not yet notable within Wikipedia, please respect my efforts for attempting to bring qualifying educational material forward. Red Wiki-links are not necessarily frowned upon, they are considered an open invitation for editors to create articles which don't already exist. Within a disambiguation page, I feel your edit rides the fine line of vandalism.

I tend to agree with 142.68.44.31. The Roller song is exceptionally notable in various geographic regions, particularly outside the U.S. (30 years after it's release) It remains a staple on Canadian classic rock radio, and is still included in April Wine's live set-list, as they continue to tour (mainly North America and Europe) and record new material to this day. The song is frequently credited to other artists in error, which is where disambiguation could prove to be a valuable tool. If the red link offends, why not just bold the text Roller, and allow the reader to follow through to associated articles which have the information they're looking for? Anything less than that, somewhat defeats the purpose of disambiguation.

I would confidently replace the line myself, but have little interest in getting caught in the middle of an already biased "he says/she says" edit war. Let's all grow up, and get back to doing what's in the best interest of the encyclopedia. SlickWik (talk) 22:42, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

The first time I removed the text I was following Mdwyer's lead. The text having been identified as 'non-notable', seeing it re-instated almost immediately by an anon editor triggered my 'vandalism' warning alerts. The second time round I checked the April Wine article to see what the big deal was. It seems that Roller was a turning point for the group, but I would dispute that it is of great significance beyond - hence it seemed appropriate to remove it again. My apologies for having never heard of April Wine, or their output, but the group has not made much of an impact in the UK.

If the same edit had been made by a registered user, I would probably have started a discussion. However, much vandalism comes from 'anon' users, and there is no guarantee that they will be using the same IP address next time round to see a message.

Even with refs I would doubt that enough information can be collected to support Roller (song) as a separate article. It is probably quite rare for a single or album track to be sufficiently notable have a page here.

As an alternative, may I suggest that a new section be created in the April Wine article, incorporating your references. It would then be appropriate to create a redirect to that section, and add an entry on this DAB page. I would also like to suggest that if User:142.68.44.31 registers a username, his/her edits will probably be regarded in a better light.
