Clarification needed on how DVD-ripping software would ever interact with Macrovision

edit

According to the article, DVDs are not encoded with Macrovision, or with blanking intervals at all. They only encode the visible 720x480 part of the signal. The blanking interval is added by DVD-players. Ripping software, meanwhile, does not play the disc or otherwise add a blanking interval; it simply copies the data, bit-for-bit, from the DVD. Macrovision is therefore not present on any of the hardware or software involved in DVD-ripping, and the idea of ripping software "defeating" or "not defeating" Macrovision is therefore utterly meaningless, unless the article has neglected to mention something...? 98.234.13.133 (talk) 15:42, 1 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
