Better Photo for the Infobox?
editHi, does anyone have a better photo to replace the one that's currently in the infobox? The current photo features a version with the cutouts, which are strictly for demonstration, and not a photo of a functional rifle. It also cuts off at the muzzle, has an extra attachment on the scope that is not common, and is quite small in size. A photo of a standard-issue SAR 21 would be much better, preferably in use by SAF personnel, I just don't know how to go about acquiring an original photo myself. Any inputs? - Sentimex (talk) 22:54, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
- Sentimex, if you are in Singapore and willing to brave the crowd amidst the pandemic, Singapore National Day Parade is around the corner. Photos of military contingents bearing the rifle can be taken there. – robertsky (talk) 23:12, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
- Robertsky, Now that I think about it, perhaps the picture in the infobox shouldn't be depicted in use by anyone? I think most articles on Wikipedia on firearms show them on their own, not being held. It's probably the least obstructed view of the entire gun. Hopefully there's someone out there who could get a photo of the gun on its own? Sorry, I should have through it through before including the comment. - Sentimex (talk) 01:49, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
- What do you mean? The picture in the infobox is not held by anyone. Seloloving (talk) 02:05, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
- Sentimex, unless there's an exhibition, you won't get a clear photo. the last i checked, the closest bet is at the army museum, but it is currently closed for a refresh. – robertsky (talk) 02:20, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
- Seloloving I was referring to the comment I made suggesting my preference for a person using the gun. I take it back now that I have thought about it.
- Robertsky Oh well, here's hoping that someone happens to have a better photo. Thanks for the suggestion! May I ask if there is some way for users to upload images that are not original works but might be in the public domain? - Sentimex (talk) 02:53, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
- Sentimex, you may read Commons:Licensing for a clearer picture. Seloloving (talk) 00:54, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
- Seloloving, I was thinking of using the images found on these sites: https://military.wikia.org/wiki/SAR-21 https://guns.fandom.com/wiki/SAR_21 . Would that be ok? I'm not so sure how to verify if they fall under the conditions stated in Commons:Licensing. - Sentimex (talk) 16:14, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
- Sentimex, unfortunately, all of the photos there (barring one already on Wikipedia) do not have adequate sources on where they come from. As such, we are unable to properly ascertain their copyright status. A few also seem to be professional shots which may have been taken off the manufacturers or professional websites. Copyright rules state that the photos must be released under an open license (with proof), or that you take the photographs yourself. I apologise for the late reply.
