Weasle Words

edit

As I understand it, this:

The Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) is dedicated to bringing people and information together to advance manufacturing knowledge

Is what they call chock-full'o'weasle words (as is the rest of that bit). If it's a direct quote from the SME foundational philosophy, then I'd say it ought to be quoted from their literature directly, e.g.: "According to their mission statement..." Otherwise Wp probably ought to take out the weasle words and talk about what the SME actually does... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.118.23.40 (talk) 22:13, 24 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Sme education foundation logo.gif

edit

Image:Sme education foundation logo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Four Pillars of Manufacturing Engineering

edit

There seems little justification to paste the entire Four pillars of manufacturing engineering article into this article, considering both are only cited to WP:PRIMARY sources. I've removed most of it. If there are no secondary sources about it, then don't add it. Sionk (talk) 21:11, 3 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Request for changes

edit

Hello Wikipedia Editor community. I am the new (within one year) Senior Director of Communications at SME. I appreciate the feedback I see here about weasel words and need for improvement on this entry, and I'd be very open to working with you in a above board and transparent way to improve this entry. I do have two immediate requests for factual changes regarding our leadership.

As you will see on our site (https://www.sme.org/aboutsme/what-is-sme/officers-directors/), our leadership has shifted since this entry was last edited. Our CEO and Executive Director Sandra Bouckley no longer has "interim" in her title. Our 2019 President is Mark Michalski (this is a one-year position by design and transitions to the new president every Jan 1), and our new secretary is James W. Schlusemann. Could these changes be made -- either by me with your approval and knowledge, or by one of the editors?

I do not want to go in and make any changes unilaterally as a COI contributor; I want to respect Wikipedia's processes and community and improve this page transparently and collaboratively, avoiding overt promotion or "weasel words" as was called out. (This entry predated my arrival; I am just tying to clean up some things.) Step one is updating our leadership, but there's improvement to do. Would anyone in this community be willing to work with me/guide me in the process of improving this page?

Thank you and I look forward to collaborating with you.

  Done, thanks for pointing this out.--Ymblanter (talk) 06:34, 22 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thank you Ymblanter. Would love to work with you on improving the rest of this entry if you're willing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.159.68.162 (talk) 12:43, 25 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
