Acronym
editThe company name, SPARTA, is an acronym. Does anyone know it stands for? I saw it once--it was something like Systems Performance and Research Technologies Associates, or some such thing. All I'm sure of is the "System" part. Does anyone know the full meaning of the acronym? It's not on their website, but I think it'd be a valuable addition to the article. — Frecklefoot | Talk 18:08, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
- Yes. SPARTA stands for Systems Planning Analysis Research and Technology Associates

Backronym
editAlanArthurJenkins removed the comment that "SPARTA is most likely a backronym" stating that it is not a backronym. How does he know? Does he have a citation for this? How else can anyone explain such a contrived company name? If it's not a backronym, we should state it in the article, with an appropriate citation. Otherwise people will still assume it is a backronym. — Frecklefoot | Talk 19:37, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
- Apologies, but you seemed unsure ("Probably a backronym") so I made it correct (as I understand the situation). If you can provide a citation for it 'probably' being a backronym by all means. Until then there are no citations, and no point speculating. AlanArthurJenkins 20:16, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Fair enough. — Frecklefoot | Talk 20:25, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
