editThis article is very similar to Benjamin_Harrison_Memorial_Bridge for obvious reasons. Should it be merged, or have one or the other redirected, rather than duplicating the page? LeeG 14:47, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

editThis article should NOT be split into a different article about the USNS Paoli, although it appears someone has already done so. It's a single ship that someone painted a new name onto. That justifies a section for each era of service, on a single page. If the page is called "SS Marine Floridian", you place a redirect from "USNS Paoli" to this page. It's that simple. You're supposed to minimize the number of articles, and the way to do that is not by splitting the page about one ship that served under two names into two pages. I've never seen that done to an article, unless the article is very long and each section can easily stand for itself. A single article covering the Paoli's wartime service, her sale and name-change, and subsequent career won't fill more than a small article, so why would you split it into two stubs that even cover a lot of the same information? Its just a waste of server space, a waste of time, and a confusion to the readers. USNS Paoli and SS Marine Floridian = the same ship, so they should be described in the same article as well..45Colt 06:58, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
- In fact, this article isn't even ABOUT the Marine Floridian...it's about the incident where it crashed into the bridge. There should be ONE article about the ship, probably called "USNS Paoli", and covering its service under both names, with a brief section describing the bridge incident. The main details about the collision should be on the page about the bridge, and a link should direct readers to that page. This page just repeats half of the information on USNS Paoli, and half of the information on the James Harrison Bridge, and almost everything on this page is about the crash and the bridge, not the ship itself, which makes the title totally misleading. So this page ought to be be totally scrapped, and the contents moved to USNS Paoli and Benjamin Harrison Memorial Bridge (which ought to have a link redirecting readers who want to read about the Marine Floridian...i.e., the vessel itself, not the crash...back to USNS Paoli). Simple...45Colt 07:08, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
- Either the article should be renamed after the accident, or each part moved to the two existing articles about ship and bridge, then this article redirects to the ship. Regards, DPdH (talk) 19:53, 17 October 2016 (UTC)
