These two articles should probably be combined.

@Xeno: It appears that the WP:Sanctions policy page link has been removed again. Nonetheless, it appears that links to policies and guidelines are usually considered acceptable, so I'm not sure why link was removed. Should the link be added again, since it appears to be appropriate here? Jarble (talk) 18:07, 13 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

The WP:Sanctions page is neither a policy nor a guideline; it's my belief that these hatlinks from articles to the background workings of the project are inappropriate. I thought this was made clear somewhere in the guidelines or manuals of style, but I can't seem to locate that bit. –xenotalk 18:17, 13 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
@Xeno:: The WP:Enforcement page might be more suitable, since it is a policy page that summarizes various types of sanctions on Wikipedia. Jarble (talk) 18:32, 13 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
It's not about the target, it's about being unnecessarily self-referential (navel-gazing) in our encyclopedic articles. There are far too many of these. There was one on Triple Crown to some barely-used Wikipedia award? ([1]) See discussion at Talk:Cherry picking (fallacy)#Proposal for hatnote linking to Wikipedia namespace, especially [2]. Perhaps we need a wider discussion to clarify this - these are running rampant [3]. –xenotalk 18:36, 13 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
