Terrorist?

The word terrorist may apply but if you add it, it will likely be reverted. There are some wikipedia editors who would prefer that we reserve label for more extreme acts. Some of her SLA comrades have that category attached to their articles but I refrained from putting it here for now until a discussion can be had over this. I did add the category American bank robbers because she did plead guilty to that. Does anyone else feel that the Terrorist category should be added here? LiPollis 13:04, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

A terrorist is just a revolutionary the writer doesn't like. Look at Luis Posada Carriles, whom the Bush administration clearly doesn't think is a terrorist, because they do like him. I don't see that the category has any use in Wikipedia at all. Put in the facts, and let the reader decide on the labels. --Rbraunwa 17:07, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

A guerrilla is an iregular soldier who literally fights a little war against other soldiers. A terrorist attempts to influence politics by acts of violence against civilians. Though violence against civilian police may just possibly be a grey area, murder of school officials clearly make the SLA terrorists, thus she is a terrorist. Kidnapping innocent bystanders is similarly a criminal act and thus terrorist act as it can serve no military purpose.

I agree entirely. And, since killing civilians is an act of terrorism, I fully expect all of the Wiki articles for every branch of the United States Armed Services to focus upon the fact that these are terrorist organisations. Furthermore, since the LAPD kills unarmed civilians on a regular basis, I expect their page to also reflect their status as a terrorist organisation. --64.142.82.28 (talk) 18:49, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

From the preceding comments, there seems to a politicization decent here. I was born in 1947, also, and lived those events first hand. I disagreed when the movement turned to violence out of frustration. To tone this dialog down, maybe we should consult Merriam-Webster or some other definitive source for the definitions of Terrorist or guerrilla or irregular. It's pretty clear from this discussion and the state of media in general that the word "terrorist" doesn't convey anything meaningful. It's primarily a word designed to elicit an emotional response, and, as such, is of minimal value to any project attempting to increase knowledge without the taint of bias and propaganda. I've found that the statements within the article are actually found in the various references currently given, but without direct attribution each time; therefore, someone simply has to go through and disperse the already-included references around in more areas of the article. I had added citations for the information I added, but it seems several of those plus other credible sources were deleted at some juncture in the editing process. Rewrite lead section

I think the LEAD section needs to be rewritten to provide an accessible overview. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a newspaper, so the lead section needs to be written in different style. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 21:10, 8 October 2022 (UTC)
