Current status: Featured list
edit

It shouldn't take too much effort to get this article to Featured list status. Perhaps the history section could do with being expanded, the rest looks alright. There are quite a few similar pages to look to for a guide: Danish football champions, English football champions, Italian football champions and Swedish football champions. The biggest stumbling block is the number of redlinked top scorers, for featured status the majority ought to be bluelinks. Oldelpaso 18:44, 3 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Bold/Italic

edit

Is there any reason for the inconsistent formatting?

Why are the winning teams names sometimes normal and others bold/italic/both? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.33.134.118 (talk) 13:06, 4 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Order

edit

Should this list not be ordered so the most recent champion is at the top? Darryl.matheson (talk) 18:00, 12 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

No other chronological lists of champions on WP are ordered in that fashion.......... ChrisTheDude (talk) 19:57, 12 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Total Titles Won section

edit

Shouldn't the total for Rangers be 54 (as of 2017)? What's listed now is 49. Were titles voided? This puts Rangers behind Linfield (in Northern Ireland) for total titles won. ES 2602:306:CD9B:E9A0:5CB0:D132:806B:8A6 (talk) 18:22, 5 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

2019/20 season (IP edits)

edit

I have been reverting an edit by an IP because it clearly doesn't hold to a neutral point of view. It removes the information that one of Rangers' title wins was shared (but doesn't remove the same comment from Dumbarton), but then adds comments about the 2019/20 season being curtailed and the Celtic total. The comments beside the Rangers and Dumbarton totals is perfectly fair, as that was a shared championship that is counted as a full title win for both clubs. I don't see any need to add comments regarding 2019/20 on this page. The fact the season ended up having fewer games than had been scheduled isn't really here or there. The number of games played in a Scottish top division season has varied over time. It is normally 38 now (and has been since 2000/01), but has been 36, 44, 34, 30, 42, 26, 22, 18 and 20 in past seasons. A season is a season and a title win is a title win, irrespective of the number of games that were actually played. To say anything else would be original research on our part. No comments are made on the French or Belgian lists, countries where leagues were similarly curtailed. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 17:47, 18 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

It's not OR at all. It's not in dispute that the season has been declared finished with a champion equivalent to a normal season (so no asterisk or similar crap), but it's equally true that the season was not completed as normal, and a minimal reference from a RS explaining that situation - without inferring that it is of any lesser value than normal seasons - is information which I feel is necessary and useful to readers. Equating these circumstances to a change in the number of teams/fixtures is pretty redundant to be honest, the league has never had to make a declaration of this kind before, and a season has never not had all fixtures played. It is information which is lacking from the French and Belgian articles IMO, and which I will be remedying now in the same fashion. I'll see what the reaction is to that before I go back to Scotland. But pretending this is normal is a bit odd. Will bookies even pay out on this, for example? I know they haven't with other competitions because all games weren't played - obviously that's the bookies being arseholes as usual, but it's an example of the normal way of things not applying to this year. Looks fine to me with the note beside the season. Do we need to protect the page to stop the constant adding of asterisks or other vandalism? Boothy m (talk) 12:55, 22 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
I don't think so. Obviously the page went mad on Monday after the decision was announced, but it has been sort of settling down since then. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 14:36, 22 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Colours

edit

Does the article really need all these colours? It makes it so ugly. For me, at least. Anyway, great job, guys, keep it up. 2804:14D:7281:8E24:0:0:0:1002 (talk) 15:31, 23 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Think you need to have something to show indicate that clubs have won doubles or trebles, though perhaps the colours could be lightened or just bold used for trebles? Boothy m (talk) 20:13, 23 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

these colours are rubbish, honestly 191.250.76.186 (talk) 13:39, 2 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 12:59, 2 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
See Talk:Rangers F.C./FAQ, which will hopefully explain why the above change will not be getting made..... -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 16:01, 2 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Rangers FC becoming the Scottish Premiership Champions is their 1st time winning that title! A google search confirms this as well as actual fact, this should be amended! 31.124.141.200 (talk) 17:38, 17 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Interesting that you're maintaining an image of the Scottish Premiership trophy with green and white ribbons, even though Rangers are the reigning champions (winning it in convincing fashion) and have won it the most in history. Interesting.... 92.30.58.74 (talk) 19:12, 17 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

It's a free-use image of the trophy, that happens to have been taken while Celtic held the trophy. If you want this Wikipedia page to have a free-use picture of the trophy with blue, red and white ribbons, go and ask Rangers for one while they hold the trophy. Until then, give the paranoid rubbish a rest. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 20:04, 17 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Besides, it's the SPL trophy dating from the 98-99 season. From that point, Rangers have won that 8 times but Celtic have won it 15 times. However, it's worth pointing out that this era relates to only the most recent 20% of all the seasons played. Adding the SFL era trophy (with or without ribbons) in addition to the SPL trophy might be an idea if there is a suitable image available. Crowsus (talk) 22:10, 17 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
^ makes a good point. Over 100 seasons started and finished before the SPL trophy existed so it would make sense to include that as well somewhere on the page. However it should be noted that the SFL trophy is now used for the Scottish Championship. 92.30.58.74 (talk) 00:26, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Glancing at the relevant category on Wikimedia, the only image I can see that contains the old SFL top division trophy is the one below of Gary Irvine holding it (after St Johnstone won the 2008–09 Scottish First Division). Jmorrison230582 (talk) 04:33, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for checking. I'd probably avoid that one due to the potential confusion between its use for the 1st and 2nd tiers with this being far into the period for the 2nd, and it would look a bit pants in a crop on its own IMO....I've now made a cropped version. It's not great. Crowsus (talk) 05:33, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

The quality of the cropped image is no worse than the image of the SPL trophy. I've added it in with an appropriate caption. I think, though, that everything in the infobox would look better centre-aligned but can't figure out how to do it. Can anyone help? - ChrisTheDude (talk) 07:37, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
managed to centre the images but not the text...? Crowsus (talk) 08:47, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

WP goes on what reliable sources say, and (as noted above) basically every reliable source regards this year's title as Rangers' 55th, so that is what we report -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 07:55, 25 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
