Sean Williams (basketball, born 1986) → Sean Williams (basketball) — Keeping things simple. There was an article called Sean Williams (basketball, born 1988), but it was deleted. Zagalejo^^^ 06:23, 20 November 2010 (UTC) Zagalejo^^^ 06:23, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose. To save readers' time here is still need to distinguish from Sean Williams (basketball, born 1988) (American basketball player for Cal State Fullerton) and to avoid people confusing these two Sean Williamses, whether or not there is still an article about him. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 10:27, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
- The Sean Williams at Cal State Fullerton is the same one who used to play at Syracuse: [1]. We've already had an AFD on him, and I'm not seeing any indication that he's gained any additional notability. Zagalejo^^^ 20:56, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
- Support Needless disambiguation. Sean Williams (basketball, born 1988) failed to gain additional notability. He sat out the 2009–10 season due to NCAA transfer rules and is not eligible to play in the 2010–11 season due to academic reason, he barely plays for Syracuse during 2007–2009, news about him are hard to find, and in wikipedia he is only mentioned in the roster section in the Syracuse Orange seasonal articles. I think it's unlikely that people are confusing these two. — MT (talk) 17:48, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
- Support per nom and Martin tamb. No need to disambiguate Mhiji (talk) 21:03, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
- Comment In disambiguating articles it's far more common to refer to the occupation rather than the sphere - e.g. "politician" rather than "politics".
If we're going to move, it might as well be to Sean Williams (basketballer). StAnselm (talk) 00:46, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
- It's not such a bad idea, but I think we should discuss it more before renaming it to basketballer because it would affect hundreds of basketball articles. For now let's just stick to the common dab method for basketball articles. — MT (talk) 03:50, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
- "Basketballer" seems to be a regional term. It's almost never used by the American media. Zagalejo^^^ 04:57, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
- Really? In that case, strikethrough my suggestion. I'm just a humble Australian who was wondering why anyone would be referred to as a basketball. It made me think of Wilson. StAnselm (talk) 05:40, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
- In America, most people would say "basketball player", and there are some articles that use that as a disambiguation suffix. However, "basketball" has gradually become the standard. "Basketball" does have some benefits over "basketball player", in that many players go on to have other careers in basketball as coaches, or team executives, or scouts, etc. Zagalejo^^^ 06:41, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

- Strong support. What's the point of dabbing two players when one of them isn't even notable? It's clear that the primary topic is the Sean Williams of the NBA / D-League. Jrcla2 (talk) 21:33, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
