Use of Mastriano's book as a source?
editThere are complaints about the accuracy of Mastriano's book, including the description of the photograph on the dust jacket and thirty-five citations that are believed to be fraudulent. The work in question, Alvin York: A New Biography of the Hero of the Argonne may not be a reliable source and should probably not be cited in this article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.185.158.58 (talk) 17:04, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
The University Press of Kentucky confirmed the factual-errors reported in Mastriano's book. Therefore, it is not a reliable source and should not be cited in this article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jamespgj (talk • contribs) 18:36, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
- Agreed! James Gregory's book is much more thoroughly researched and his is an actual historian. He spent 4 years working to uncover the best possible information in his book. 68.50.255.172 (talk) 09:09, 22 July 2023 (UTC)
„Gathering 35 machine guns“
editThis sounds like an exaggeration. This is what Lt. Col. Taylor V. Beattie has to say about it:
„The assertion that Sergeant York captured 35 machine guns on October 8, 1918 remains unsubstantiated. There are no official military records that indicate York brought in any captured machine guns with the patrol.“ (warfarehistorynetwork.com)

- There has been further vandalism in this article, including this number (it now says 357). Don't know how to mark so someone checks it 146.168.24.132 (talk) 21:18, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
Unraveling the Myth of Sgt. Alvin York: The Other Sixteen by James Gregory
editParts of this article is based largely on "myth" of Alvin York that evolved out of the War Department's intentional revision of the story to make it sound like York Acted individually in several respects when in fact there were several other men (all privates I believe) who were actively fighting with him throughout the defeat of the German stronghold. The article should be revised in light of the new and much more accurate information in James Gregory's book. This would make it far more historically accurate and fair to the other men who were initially omitted from the event. I wish that I had time to do it but I don't, but I thought the opinion should be noted in case it could be accomplished in the future. 68.50.255.172 (talk) 09:07, 22 July 2023 (UTC)
