Sergey Ivanov (disambiguation)Sergey IvanovUser:Rago 08:22, 26 December 2011‎ (UTC)Reply

Any particular reason? Wouldn't this leave Sergey Ivanov and Sergei Ivanov pointing to different places (or perhaps this is the point)? Also please note that for some reason or another, the bot isn't listing this request in the proper place at WP:RM.--Kotniski (talk) 18:16, 26 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • Keep -- The transliteration of Cyrillic is not a precise science. Either spelling of the first name for the Russian Prime Minister is thus a plausible search term for him, and he is clearly the Primary Subject. Accordingly the presnet version with a hatnote dab-link seems appropriate. Peterkingiron (talk) 19:16, 26 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • Support move. Exact science this isn't, but the move is beneficial, if only for consistency sake.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); December 27, 2011; 13:16 (UTC)
Can you explain? What are the advantages of this?--Kotniski (talk) 13:35, 27 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
Whenever possible, we title the dab pages like this one using the modified BGN/PCGN romanization. Following one consistent romanization system is advantageous comparing to picking the spellings at random, no? Also, with articles about people, there are always "common usage" considerations. No such considerations exist with the dab pages since they are by definition navigational and not encyclopedic.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); December 27, 2011; 14:57 (UTC)
I still don't understand - surely the request is about demoting someone from the position of primary topic for this phrase, and not about choosing between Romanization systems?--Kotniski (talk) 15:03, 27 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
It's for both reasons, actually, but you are right that the romanization concern is tangential to the purpose of this RM, so I won't go there. On the matter of the Russian minister being the primary topic for "Serge[y|i] Ivanov", I tend to think that he isn't that important on the grand scale of things (the painter, in my opinion, is more important), although as of now he definitely is the most likely search target among the people listed on this dab. With that in mind, I believe that "Sergey Ivanov" should be a dab, not a redirect to the minister article. Does this clarify my position for you?—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); December 27, 2011; 15:53 (UTC)
Partly - so are you also suggesting that Sergei Ivanov should be moved to Sergei Ivanov (politician) or something like that? And which is your preferred romanization for the dab page title - Sergei or Sergey?--Kotniski (talk) 16:09, 27 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
Using "Sergey" for the dab page title would be consistent with other dab pages (since there are no usage concerns with the dabs, using a consistent romanization approach is the next best thing). With the politician, adding the "(politician)" moniker is fine by me, unless there is a better one I'm not seeing. Regarding the spelling of his first name, I would prefer using "Sergey" as well (for consistency and the fact that both spellings are used to refer to him), but that can be a subject of a separate discussion on that article's talk page.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); December 27, 2011; 17:17 (UTC)
