Tattoo
editHe has a "black sun" nazi tattoo on his belly, is that relevant?— Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.180.38.82 (talk) 19:51, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
- It's not a "black sun nazi tattoo" but a kolovrat, a symbol of Slavic paganism which symbolizes the sun, the fire, the renewal, the rebirth, and that in in some areas it's still possible to find in folk handicrafts; as all Sergei Polunin's tattoos, it has no connection with any group / political faction, as he repeatedly stated.
LilyLilac88 (talk) 23:51, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
- The Kolovrat is used by a number of eastern european neo-nazi groups and is usually called the slavic swastica. You run around with a swastika on your belly people tend to assume you are a nazi, run around with a Kolovrat and they think you want to start WWI again.Litch (talk) 21:10, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
Mistake?
editI'm not a native English Speaker, but I'm quite sure that in the line "He was first shown in the international spotlight in the role of Slavemaster/Sheppard in the 25th Anniversary The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall." of the "Life and Career" section of this article there's a mistake with the word Sheppard. I believe this word doesn't mean anything and that it should've said Sheperd instead, as written in this article !!—Preceding unsigned comment added by Eilas beginning (talk • contribs) 09:32, 9 October 2015 (UTC)

Sergii Polunin → Sergei Polunin – The change of the title is incorrect, the name "Sergei" is the name used by all the official sources related to the artist Lils88 (talk) 20:42, 13 May 2017 (UTC)
The change of the title is incorrect, the name "Sergei" is the name used by all the official sources related to the artist:
http://www.supamodelmanagement.com/image/543-sergei-polunin/
http://www.roh.org.uk/people/sergei-polunin
https://www.staatsoper.de/en/biographies/detail-page/polunin-sergei.html
as well as the name used by all his social media: although these cannot be used as source of the article, here are the links of his official accounts:
https://it-it.facebook.com/sergeipolunin.dancer/
https://it-it.facebook.com/DancerTheFilm
"Sergei" is also the name he is credited with in all the film productions he attended. On the web you can easily find also photos of him autographs, where he signs "Sergei". Moreover, the note refers to a site that cannot be a valid source. Can anyone please move this article from Serii Polunin to Sergei Polunin? Lils88 (talk) 15:07, 13 May 2017 (UTC)
Opposemove to Sergei Polunin, but would Support move to Serhiy Polunin since the article's lead sentence clearly identifies subject as Ukrainian, not Russian. Russian language has no letter "H/h" and Ukrainian language has no letter "G/g". The same letter, "Г/г" is pronounced as "G/g" in Russian and as "H/h" in Ukrainian. The Russian form of this given name is transliterated into the English forms "Sergei" or "Sergey", while the Ukrainian form is transliterated as "Serhiy" (not "Sergii", as the main header currently indicates, or "Sergiy", which is another Russian-style transliteration of the Ukrainian form). There are multiple properly-transliterated Wikipedia entries for Ukrainian subjects — Serhiy Kryvtsov, Serhiy Kurchenko, Serhiy Lishchuk, Serhiy Rebrov, Serhiy Tymofiyovych Shevchenko, Serhiy Vasylyovych Shevchenko, Serhiy Yakovych Shevchenko, Serhiy Tihipko, Serhiy Turyanskyi, Serhiy Zhadan — to name 10, among many others.
For those who may have a greater interest in the subject of Russian/Ukrainian G/H transliteration, a much longer discussion regarding this topic was held at Talk:Oleg Sentsov#Requested move 21 October 2016. —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 01:20, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but since Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a translation manual, don't you think the priority would be to give the correct information that is the name with which he is internationally known? Also, note that a part of the Ukrainian population speaks Russian. If this is not enough, he is an artist, so the name in Latin characters he chooses can be considered as a stage name: why does a dancer have to be treated differently from an actor, a lyrical singer or a painter?
In any case, the current name is wrong both from a grammatical point of view, from an informational point of view, and from the point of view of the sources: why cannot we simply cancel an erroneous edit?
Lils88 (talk) 19:39, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
Neutral. A very reasonable reply — especially given the fact of his own transliteration of his given name into Latin characters. I will therefore strike-over my "Oppose" vote and switch to "Neutral". —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 00:21, 16 May 2017 (UTC)- Support. On second/third thought, since "Sergii" is incorrect under any circumstances, I will strike-over "Neutral" and support the return move to "Sergei". —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 00:28, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
Thank you! And anyway, the correct transliteration from the Ukrainian language is provided in the introduction, so this information should not be lost
