editJust for the record, I'm with Kathleen Richardson on this: I think sex robots are a Bad Idea, and not just from the human perspective: creating a sentient being for no purpose other than to be a sex object -- and no choice in the matter -- seems to me to be clearly wrong; and the same goes for all other attempts to create AIs as slaves. -- Markshale (talk) 09:04, 7 September 2016 (UTC)

Suggestions
editThis page is currently categorized as a stub. Given the additional references, should this still be categorized a stub? Mosterbur (talk) 01:05, 28 October 2017 (UTC)Mosterbur
- Mosterbur, I removed stub tag. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 01:16, 29 October 2017 (UTC)
Maybe the popular culture section should reference the movie "her" as well? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.173.45.78 (talk) 04:09, 4 October 2018 (UTC)

Suggested area of focus
editI think this article has good content that centers around the philosophical arguments surrounding it, but it could use some facts about the tangible prototypes being worked on and any precursors to this (like blow up dolls) Here is a popular article I think could be useful www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/dec/13/sex-love-and-robots-the-end-of-intimacy Here is a scholarly article I think could be useful https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Sex_robot&action=edit And finally, I think talking about Sex Robots in popular entertainment can be very insightful such as in Ex Machina, Her, and Westworld. After all, entertainment media is in many ways a reflection of our own views and desires Goldbond Goblin (talk) 01:49, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
- If you are thinking of working on improving the article I believe one major failing is the lede. It neither summarises nor gives a balanced overview of the page. Mramoeba (talk) 20:15, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
- This article is currently small. What are you hoping for the lead to state that you feel will better align it with WP:LEAD? Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 02:46, 8 March 2018 (UTC)
difference between doll and robot
editI think it would be worth clarifying the difference between doll and robot. Many think sex robots already exist, so the claim at the head that they do not seems to negate credibility without explanation. 2620:0:1000:5710:69B:351A:195C:5BFC (talk) 18:43, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
No mention of Westworld?
editSeems like a massive oversight. David notMD (talk) 10:55, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
- this is an excellent point, there are a bunch of ethical/philosophical issues that are unique to that show. At the very least, a mention is worth it. EthicsScholar93 (talk) 11:08, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
Inaccurate film mention
edit"The 2007 film Lars and the Real Girl explores the idea of a romantic attachment to artificial human-like items. Ultimately, the film concludes with the protagonist "murdering" his sex doll lover in a river: emphasizing the projection of one's idealized lover onto an inanimate object."
The mention of this film, while relevant to the concept of love, affection, or attraction to or with an inanimate object or being seems appropriate, but the plot of that movie more concerns emotional maturity and mental health rather than a robot. Additionally, the claim that Lars "murders" the doll is pure speculation, based on a columnist's likely erroneous interpretation of the plot. In the story, Lars only seemingly finds the doll after drowning - at no point does he symbolically murder her.
Suggest this mention be removed. WhampoaSamovar (talk) 20:13, 18 March 2021 (UTC) (talk • contribs) 20:10, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
-Randy- Yes, I also recommend this part be rewritten or removed entirely. When I watched the film, I'm pretty sure his doll girlfriend died of natural causes (in his fantasy at least).
