Songs
editWe currently have articles for three songs with this name:
- "Ship of Fools" (World Party song) page view stats incoming links
- "Ship of Fools" (Erasure song) page view stats incoming links
- "Ship of Fools" (Robert Plant song) page view stats incoming links
The World Party song is from 1986 and the other two from 1988. All had some chart success.
I would have assumed that the World Party song was by far the best known. It's the only one to still have any significant airplay, in fact it hasn't ever been off FM playlists, in Sydney at least. I've even set up a new redirect on that basis. But I'm painfully aware that the stats don't reflect this view.
Two questions:
1. Is the World Party song significantly better known than the others, to the point that if we were looking for a primary meaning of Ship of Fools (song), it would be that?
2. Is the new redir an appropriate way of reflecting this, and/or are there others?
Interested in all views. Andrewa (talk) 02:43, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
- As a huge fan of the World Party song (I wrote the article, actually), I'd have to say that labeling any of the songs as simply Ship of Fools (song) would be too confusing. The World Party song might be the best known of the three, but even if it is I don't think it's so far above the others to qualify as the primary topic. I recommend redirecting Ship of Fools (song) to Ship of Fools (disambiguation) instead. 28bytes (talk) 02:49, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
- I also like the song, and this came out of my finally deciding to find out who wrote it with an eye to adding it to my repertoire. And Wikipedia was very little help. Utube on the other hand had videos of all three and a couple of others and quickly nailed it.
- So what I'm looking for is a way to now help others who may have heard the song to find the right article. I think it's unlikely that they're looking for the others. But I may be wrong there.
- I have put a hatnote on the World Party song article so at worst people are one click worse off. Andrewa (talk) 03:01, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Ship of Fools (disambiguation) → Ship of Fools – There are 36 entries listed upon the Ship of Fools (disambiguation) page and all of those entries, except one, use an uppercase "F". No need for the Ship of Fools redirect to the sole entry that uses the lowercase "f" — Ship of fools, which is listed as the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, although it is little more than a stub and already has a hatnote pointing to the disambiguation page. — Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 03:47, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
- Support per WP:DIFFCAPS like Friendly Fire, the generic meaning has 4,526 views but the film has 3,850, the Porter novel has 2,502, the painting has 1,396 and the satire has 1,112[[1]]. Also support keeping DAB capitalized per WP:DABNAME as all the other uses indeed are in title case Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:00, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
